Rev. William “Bill” K. Stockman, age 90, of the Alexandria area and most recently of Long Prairie, died on Wednesday, July 29, 2020, at Whispering Creek Care Center in Janesville under the care of St. Croix Hospice.

Visitation is 4-6 p.m., Sunday, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Proper social distancing and mask wearing will be observed.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, August 3, 2020, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Rev. Kirk Lee and Rev. Noah Wehrspann officiating. Music is provided by pianist, Laura Schiller and soloist, Joshua Stockman. Interment is at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Garfield.

William Kenneth Stockman was born on October 10, 1929, in Rabbit Lake Township, Crow Wing County, Minnesota to Lydia Leena (Eschenbacher) and William Frederick Stockman.  He was baptized on October 27, 1929, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Iron Hub and confirmed in 1943, at Zion Lutheran Church, Brainerd.  He attended K-8th grade in Brainerd, and then Concordia Academy in St. Paul where he graduated in 1948.  He attended Concordia College in St. Paul and graduated in 1950.  He graduated from Concordia Senior College in St. Louis, Missouri in 1952.  William attended Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri.  He served his vicarage at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Tulsa, Oklahoma before graduating from Concordia Seminary in 1955. William married Wilma Constantina Augusta Kazeck on July 9, 1955, at Zion Lutheran Church in Little Falls.

William served as pastor at Trinity Lutheran and Mt. Calvary Lutheran Churches in Parma and Homedale, Idaho from 1955-1958; Zion Lutheran Church in Cornelius, Oregon from 1958-1972; St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Benson, Minnesota from 1972-1982 and Trinity Lutheran Church in Farmington from 1982-1991.   After he retired, he and his wife Wilma moved to a home they built on Lake Vermont, rural Parkers Prairie, Minnesota.  After many years of enjoying their home on the lake they moved into a home in Garfield.

During his retirement William kept busy serving as vacancy pastor at the following churches: St. John's, Garfield; Trinity, Grove Lake; St. John's, Villard; Trinity, Long Prairie; St. John's, Wadena; Good Shepherd, Alexandria; Ebenezer, Leaf Valley; Mt. Calvary, Miltona; and St. Paul’s, West Miltona.  He finally “retired” full time on October 12, 2014.

His wife of 59 years, Wilma died on October 28, 2014. William then reacquainted with an old friend, Gwen Lemke. They were united in marriage at the age of 85. Together they lived in Long Prairie and enjoyed their time together. When their health started declining, they transitioned to Meadow Place Assisted Living in the memory care unit where Gwen continues to live.

William enjoyed fishing, golfing and serving church vacancies following his first retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wilma; brothers, George and Mel; and sisters, Delores, Dorothy and Margaret.

William is survived by his wife, Gwen of Long Prairie; three children, Jan (George) Sater of Maple Grove, Reed (Jan) Stockman of Morris, and Wade (Eugenia) Stockman of Janesville; five grandchildren, Dillion Stockman, Addie (Jakob) Lehrke, Joshua Stockman, Joey Stockman and Darsie Stockman; two great-grandchildren, Brooksten and Shepard Lehrke; and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Dillon Stockman, Joshua Stockman, Joey Stockman, and Jakob Lehrke.

Memorials preferred to the St. Louis Seminary Scholarship Fund for the training of future ministers or to the family.
