Dorothy H. Jennissen, age 87, of Alexandria, died on Thursday, September 5, 2019, in her home at Nelson Gables.

Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m., Saturday, September 14, 2019, at S. Mary’s Church in Alexandria with Fr. Steve Binsfeld officiating.  Music is provided by pianist, Laurie Youngers and cantor, Cathy Kinney.  Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

A visitation will be held on Friday, September 13, 2019, from 5-7 p.m., with a 6:30 p.m., parish prayer service at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria.  The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church.

Dorothy Helen was born on November 17, 1931, to Ed and Frances (Friedrichs) Pulcznski in Sauk Centre.  She grew up in Sauk Centre until her family moved to Long Prairie where Dorothy graduated from High School. She attended cosmetology school in St. Cloud and moved to Alexandria to work as a beautician.  Dorothy was united in marriage to Francis Jennissen on October 27, 1951, in Long Prairie. Following their marriage, she raised her children before returning to the work force.  She was an amazing seamstress and made draperies, pillows, clothing and knit many hats, mittens, booties and baby blankets.  She also worked as a dietary aide for Douglas County Hospital for ten years. Dorothy volunteered at Knute Nelson in the snack shop and set hair at both Knute Nelson and Bethany Home.  She loved quilting and was a mission quilter.  Dorothy was a member of Church of St. Mary, Daughters of Isabella and the VFW Auxiliary Post 936.  She loved to travel and was able to see most states, including Alaska and Hawaii, in addition to Peru, Europe, the Bahamas, Sweden and Norway.  She was humble, kind, faithful and courageous and always tried to leave people and things better than she found them.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Francis; two sons, Richard and Gary; daughter-in-law, Gail; and brother, Norbert Pulcznski.

Dorothy is survived by her three daughters, Linda (Steve) Koep of Star Prairie, Wisconsin, Nancy Jennissen of Alexandria and Sherry (Luis) Hermoza of Farmington; 13 grandchildren, Lisa Moschel, Craig Jennissen, Jason Koep, Jed Koep, Rikki Jennissen, Shannon Jennissen, Andrew Jennissen, Travis Jennissen, Terra Jennissen, Ashley Olson, Kevin Ptacek, Nicholas Hermoza and Alexandra Hermoza; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law; and cousins and other relatives.

Urn bearers are Jason Koep, Jed Koep, Kevin Ptacek and Craig Jennissen.  Honorary urn bearers are her grandchildren.

Memorials are preferred to Hospice, Cancer patients and their families.
