Charlotte Mary was born November 4, 1921, to Guy and Margaret (McMillen) Melius at Dead Lake Township, Richville, Minnesota.  She was baptized May 17, 1931, at the Parkers Prairie Baptist Church by Pastor Leo Sandgren and confirmed on May 10, 1942, at the Jehovah Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Paul by Pastor Ernest Drews. When Charlotte was three years old, her dad died in a farming accident. Her mother was unable to care for her, so she lived with her grandparents in Cordova and with other relatives in Wisconsin. Later, she and her mom returned to Parkers Prairie and lived in the Manhattan Apartments where she enjoyed roller skating on the third floor. Her job after school was to fill the wood box and the reservoir on the stove with water.  The first motion picture she saw was one of Shirley Temple, which a friend’s father drove them to watch in a neighboring town. Charlotte was very active in the Baptist Church where she attended regularly and belonged to the youth group.  Charlotte graduated from Parkers Prairie High School in 1939.  Following her education, she worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Farringer.

Charlotte married Marvin Hink on January 17, 1941, at the Baptist Church in Parkers Prairie and were blessed with three children, Thomas, Ronald, and Maureen.  They lived and worked on their farm for 25 years and were members of St. James Lutheran Church. In 1972, they moved to Thief River Falls where Marvin worked as a pilot for Arctic Cat and Charlotte thoroughly enjoyed working at K-Mart and Ben Franklin.  While living in Thief River Falls, they were members of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Her husband, Marvin died in 1986, and the following year, Charlotte returned to Parkers Prairie.  She joined Immanuel Lutheran Church, singing with Grace Notes and was active in LWML. She was an avid reader and finished many books from the church library. Charlotte married Merl Pexsa in 1990.  They lived on his farm until selling it in 1993, and then moved into Parkers Prairie. She was a hard worker all of her life, milking cows, gardening, canning, cooking, and baking.  She was the proverbial “hostess with the mostess!” One never left her home hungry or without a cup of coffee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin; son, Tom; son-in-law, Arvid Bowman; daughter-in-law, Hilde Hink; three brothers; three sisters; and many other brothers and sisters-in-law.

Charlotte is survived by her husband of 30 years, Merl; son, Ron (Anna) Hink of Memphis, Texas; daughter, Maureen (Paul) Diedrich of Parkers Prairie; daughter-in-law, Maud Hink of Marysville, Washington; sister-in-law, Pearl Nelson of Maple Grove; eight grandchildren, Thad Hink of Burlington, Washington, Julie Hink of Chicago, Illinois, Nikole (Jim) Noldin of Spokane, Washington, Michael (Heidi) Hink of Dillingham, Alaska, Carey (Kristi) Bowman of Alexandria, Christopher (friend, Kristi) Bowman of Parkers Prairie, Charlene (friend, Ryan) Staples of Alexandria, and Laurie (Brent) Nyhammer of St. Joseph; stepchildren, Kathy (Conrad) Tyrrell of Browerville, Jan (Marie) Pexsa of Wadena, Cindy Zirngible of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, Connie (Brad) Kleinjan of Mandan, North Dakota, Kim (Marsha)  Pexsa of Wadena, and Tammy (Jamie) Bertram of Bertha; 11 step-grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
