Burton Julius Carl King was born on February 9,1920 to Frank P. and Elsie Anna-Marie (Balvanz) King in Eldora, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Burt attended public school and graduated from Lakota High School in 1937.  In 1942, Burt was drafted into the U.S. Army and served four years, both at home and overseas in Africa and later in France. He was wounded outside of Strasbourg and received the Purple Heart for his bravery. He spent the next year in hospitals in England and Wales. While on the ship returning home to the United States, it was announced the war in Europe ended. Burt was honorably discharged in 1946.  He was united in marriage to Doris A. Strom on September 6, 1949, in Minneapolis.  Following their marriage, they moved to a farm in Miltona. He worked on the farm until his health required him to turn to other pursuits; carpentry and acting as a fishing guide. He was very active in the community.  He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Miltona Veterans of Foreign Wars, and served on the Miltona Township Board as clerk for 13 years. He enjoyed his friends and spent time with them fishing, hunting, and playing cards.  Burt moved from the farm in 2012, to St William’s Living Center in Parkers Prairie. He enjoyed the many friendships he made with the residents and with the support staff.  Many people visited Burt because he enjoyed their company, and they enjoyed the many stories he shared. He had a remarkable memory and was able to tell them about their relatives and historical events he recounted over the past 100 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank King and Else Lentz; wife, Doris; and niece, Karen Hollman.

Burt is survived by his son, Gary (Gail) King of Yorktown, Virginia; grandson, Devon (Theresa) King of Yorktown; granddaughter, London (Jorge Salamea) King of Nyack, New York; great-grandchildren, Christopher Robert King of Yorktown and Lukas, Matias and Mariella of Nyack, New York; two nieces; one nephew; and numerous cousins.
