Betty Lou was born on December 26, 1932, to Orville and Grace (Ohren) Hoff in Starbuck.  She was baptized at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck and confirmed at the Swedish Evangelical Clara Lutheran Church in Brainerd.  Betty attended grade school in Ashby, rural Elbow Lake, North Ogden, Utah and Lake Hubert, Minnesota. She graduated from the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston in 1950. Following her education, she moved to Conrad, Montana and worked at St. Mary’s Hospital as a nurse’s aide.  She met and was united in marriage to Arlie Delmore Fredman at the Conrad Mission Church.  Following their marriage, they returned to Minnesota in 1952, to farm in the Rose City area.  Betty was a member of the Rose City Evangelical Free Church where she served as Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher and was active in the Women’s Fellowship.  Later, she decided to go back to school and graduated from the Alexandria Technical College in 1974, as an LPN.  She worked at Knute Nelson for 20 years.  In 1995, Betty and Arlie moved to Alexandria and she became active on the Cedar Hills Condo Board before moving to Arabella where she enjoyed the people and activities as well. Betty volunteered at Douglas County Hospital, Joint Replacement and loved her time spent with Alexandria Elder Network and the special relationships she formed. She was an active member of the Alexandria Covenant Church where she experienced believer’s baptism, loved serving on the Missions Team, and helping with ALPHA.  Betty enjoyed the many friendships she made at church whether it be working the front desk, helping with the youth, or socializing after services. Betty enjoyed travel, both in the U.S. and internationally. She had many hobbies including sewing, quilting, computer games, puzzles, and reading. Betty loved keeping up with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren either using her cell phone or Facebook.
