Bernice "Bea" Louise (Schugg) Jacobs

March 13, 1922 ~ May 17, 2020 (age 98)

Bernice “Bea” L. Jacobs, age 98, beloved mother, grandma, and great-grandma, of Parkers Prairie, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 17, 2020, following a brief stay at Alomere Hospital in Alexandria.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Bernice Louise was born on March 13, 1922, to Edward and Louise (Keusemann) Schugg in St. Paul.  She grew up in Minneapolis where she attended public schools and graduated from North High.  Following her education, Bea, and her sister, Verda moved to Renville to work on a farm and waitress and a local café.  It was in Renville that she met the love of her life, John Henry Jacobs.  They were united in marriage on February 6, 1942, in Minneapolis.  Following their marriage, John served in the U.S. Navy, during this time, Bea worked at a munitions plant. Bea, the first baseman and Verda, the pitcher, were recognized in the Minneapolis Tribune for their accomplishment of winning a championship in women’s softball at the Dunwoody Field. Bea worked with Prudential Insurance in Wayzata for 22 years as their comptroller. She then worked as a bookkeeper for her son and daughter-in-law’s safety shoe business for 16 years.  Following the death of her husband, she moved to Parkers Prairie. Bea was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was actively involved with Bible studies, assisted in the office, director of the prayer chain, and worked closely with Pastor Lee. She was a dutiful servant of our Lord; always putting Him first!  Her hobbies included gardening, camping, fishing, and road trips. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and family at Child Lake on the Woman Lake Chain, Lake Miltona and many other lakes. Bea thoroughly enjoyed spending time outdoors.  She was always eager to help with yardwork and initiated many bonfires, as she was a firebug at heart. In the winter months, the snow did not keep Bea indoors, she faithfully kept her driveway immaculately shoveled for her visitor’s convenience. Bea was a generous, kind-hearted, and self-less lady, always putting others before herself. She will always be remembered for her faithful attendance to her son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s sporting events.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; four brothers, Harold, Melvin, Lesley and Lawrence; and three sisters, Evelyn, Helen and Verda.

Bea is survived by her son, Jerry (Deb) Jacobs of Alexandria; two grandsons, Brandon Jacobs of Minneapolis and Troy Jacobs of Alexandria; and two great-granddaughters, Isabella and Jojo Jacobs.
