William “Bill” K. Moerke, age 80, of Alexandria, formerly of Evansville, died on Monday, September 27, 2021, at Alomere Health in Alexandria.
A visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m., concluding with a 6 p.m. funeral service on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria with Rev. Michael Neumann officiating.
Interment will take place at 1 p.m., Monday, October 18, 2021, at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis with full military honors.
William Kenneth was born on August 26, 1941, to George and Clara (Soland) Moerke in Donnelly. He attended elementary school in Donnelly and graduated from Morris High School in 1959. Bill joined the U.S. Air Force in 1959, and was stationed in Duluth repairing radios and loading planes with munitions. Following his honorable discharge, he was united in marriage to Janice Befort on June 26, 1965, at the Catholic Church in Fountain, Minnesota. Bill’s working career began at Sperry/Unisys in St. Paul, later transferring to Clear Lake, Iowa. They returned to the Twin Cities where he worked for a security system company until his retirement. Bill and Janice moved to rural Evansville where they lived and enjoyed traveling to Texas, Arizona, and Florida to visit family. Later they moved to Diamond Willow and Windmill Ponds in Alexandria. Bill was an avid woodworker. He also loved the outdoors, where he spent time hunting and fishing.
He was preceded death by his parents; and sister, Donna.
Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janice; son, Daniel (Carolyn) Moerke of Brookings, South Dakota; daughter, Jill Moerke of Carlos; five grandchildren, Hannah Moerke, Allison Moerke, Emma Moerke, Lucas Magnuson, and Julia Magnuson; sister, Beverly (Lance) Daby of Northville, Michigan, wintering in Florida; brother, Gary (Sherry) Moerke of Punta Gorda, Florida; brother-in-law, Anthony Schelonka of Carmel, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be his family.
