Wayne E. Becker, age 78, of Garfield, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at home under the care of Hospice of Douglas County.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, October 28, 2024, at Living Word Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Rev. Jesse Carson presiding. Music will be provided by the organist, Nancy Anderson. Graveside service will take place at 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Acacia Park Cemetery, Mendota Heights.
Visitation is 6:30-8:30 p.m., Sunday, with an 8 p.m., Masonic Service at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service.
Wayne Edward was born on September 25, 1946, to Donald and Dorothy (Ameter) Becker in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in St. Paul. Wayne attended the U of M, St. Paul Vocational, Dunwoody, and Anoka Technical Schools earning an associate degree in electronics. He was united in marriage to Karen Snyder on October 4, 1968, at St. Stephanus Lutheran Church in St. Paul. Following their marriage, they moved to Brooklyn Park where they raised their family. Wayne started as a journeyman electrician and became a master electrician for Honeywell for 13 years and then worked at Minnesota Supply. He and his family moved to Garfield in 1982, where he built their forever dream log home, and he worked as a biomedical engineer at Douglas County Hospital for four years. Wayne became self-employed at both Becker Electric and Becker Pipe Organ, retiring in 2008. He served as Moe Township Clerk for 26 years. He joined the Alexandria Masonic Lodge in 2002, and the Scottish Rite in 2004, and was Master of the Lodge in 2013, and 2022. He was also a 32 Degree Mason with the Scottish Rite in Minneapolis. Wayne was an active member of Living Word Lutheran Church. He was a member of MSRA, the Vintage Car Club of Alexandria and the Alexandria Model Railroad Association. Wayne enjoyed restoring cars and showing them at car shows, working on model trains, music, and traveling with his wife, especially on trains. He absolutely loved everything Christmas.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 56 years, Karen; daughter, Katherine “Kate” (Don) Lawrence of Becker; son, David (Jen) Becker of Long Prairie; sister, JoAnn Haubrick of Lino Lakes; five grandchildren, Hannah Lawrence, Deedra Lawrence, Ellie Lawrence, Madison Becker, and Alexis Becker; great-granddaughter, Paisley Lawrence; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Pallbearers are Darryl Schmidt, Jim Gratias, Jim Bridenstine, Terry Smart, Gary Weldon, Steve Ferguson, LaVern Floen, and Loren Larson. The honorary pallbearer is Don Lawrence.
Memorials preferred to the Living Word Lutheran Church Building Fund.
