Vivian Agnes Talley, age 73, of Parkers Prairie, died Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at Fairview University Medical Center in Minneapolis.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 21, 2010, at St. Williams Catholic Church in Parkers Prairie with Fr. LeRoy Scheierl officiating. Music will be provided by the church choir, soloist, Terry Derosier and trumpet player, James Schmitz. Burial will take place 3:00 p.m., Sunday, August 22, 2010, at St. Mary's/St. Joseph's Cemetery, Red Lake Falls, Minnesota.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Friday at the Lind Family Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Vivian was born June 23, 1937, on the family farm north of Red Lake Falls, Minnesota, the second of six children, to Edward J. and Gertrude (Knott) Schmitz. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. She attended Busy Bee Country School through 8th grade in rural Red Lake Falls and attended St. Joseph's Catholic School for three years before graduating from Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls in 1954. Vivian attended three years of full-time school at St. Michael's School of Nursing at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, North Dakota where she became a Registered Nurse. She worked at St. John's Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota during her nursing school residency. She was united in marriage to James J. Talley, of Chicago, Illinois on Jan 31, 1959, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, of which they celebrated 32 years. As newlyweds, they moved to Villa Park, Illinois then later back to Thief River Falls, Minnesota where she worked for several months at the clinic. She moved with her family to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota in 1962, and continued her nursing career in Obstetrics and occasionally in the OR at St. Mary's Hospital. Vivian and her family moved to Parkers Prairie in 1973, where she was a full-time mom and part-time nurse in the OR at the Parkers Prairie Hospital. Vivian enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, canning, knitting, crocheting, clipping coupons, bowling, visiting and doing volunteer work with the elderly at the nursing home. She was a member of St. Williams Catholic Church and attended mass regularly. She was a member of the choir and led the congregation in song for many years in addition to being a member of Christian Mothers, prayer chain and other church functions where needed. She was a loving mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren where she provided a warm environment for many family gatherings. She was a mentor to her family and friends and demonstrated her love by providing home cooked meals, displaying pictures and documenting activities in her daily journal. She will truly be missed by everyone.

She is survived by her five sons, Mark (Sue) of Alexandria, Minnesota, Stephen (Brenda) of Lino Lakes, Minnesota; Craig (Jody) of Sabin, Minnesota, James (Cecelia) of Des Moines, Iowa and Paul (Marsha) of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; three brothers, Edward (Gaylene) Schmitz of Excelsior, Minnesota, James (Theresa) Schmitz and Leo Schmitz both of Red Lake Falls; a sister, Janice (Vern) Ebersviller of Waconia, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Matthew Talley, Ashlie Talley, Brandan Talley, Krista Talley, Autumn Talley, Jacqueline Talley, Josie Talley and Rachel Talley; many nieces and nephews, including four Godchildren; an uncle, Frank Knott and aunt, Leona Bevolden.

She was preceded in death by brother, Ronald E. Schmitz and her parents.

Pallbearers will be Glen Knott, Allen Schmitz, James Pope, Nicole Ebersviller, Neil Schmitz, Jeff Schmitz, Matthew Talley and Brandan Talley.
