Susan K. Krueger

Susan K. Krueger, age 62, of Garfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and hospice, on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at her home after a yearlong battle with cancer and 30-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Leaf Valley with Pastor Scott Brown officiating. Interment is at the church cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Monday, December 18, 2023, at the Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Susan Kay was born to Marvin and Verla Mae (Grimberg) Hatting on November 3, 1961. Her early years were spent in St. James, where she attended local schools. During her senior year, she moved to Alexandria and graduated in 1980. Post-graduation, Susan worked at Hagstrom clothing, honing her skills as a sales associate. It was at a local event at the “Barn” where Susan's vibrant personality shone brightly, captivating Orvin Krueger with a memorable dance on a tabletop. They were married on November 21, 1987, at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Leaf Valley. Together, they began their life in the Alexandria community, where Susan took on various roles to support her family. In 1993 when Susan was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (M.S.). Despite this, she continued working until 1996, when the disease made it impossible for her to continue. Unwilling to let this define her, Susan transitioned into a dedicated stay-at-home mom, pouring her love and energy into her children. Susan's interests were diverse and fulfilling. She relished building her dream home alongside her husband, solving word puzzles, and actively participating in her children's programs, shopping, and sporting events. She was a committed member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML), and M.S. fundraising and awareness activities. Perhaps influenced by her early career in fashion, Susan held a firm belief in the power of dressing as the person you aspire to be. This philosophy was not just about clothes, but a reflection of her belief in presenting oneself with dignity, strength, and grace, regardless of life's challenges. Her life, marked by resilience, love, and an unwavering spirit, remains an inspiration to all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Mark Hatting; father-in-law, Alvin Krueger; nephew, Andy Wendinger; and canine companion, Mattie.

Susan is survived by her husband, Orvin Krueger of Garfield; son, Phillip Krueger of Horace, North Dakota; daughter, Amanda (Laif) Rognlin of Fargo, North Dakota; granddaughter, Braelyn Rognlin; brothers, Wayne (Judy) Hatting of Chanhassen and Neal (Nicole) Hatting of Savage; sister, Lisa (Jon) Wendinger of North Mankato; mother-in-law, Verdell Krueger; and many nieces and nephews.

Serving as urn bearers will be Neal Hatting, Wayne, Hatting, Phillip Krueger, and Laif Rognlin.
