Ruby F. Simonson, age 94, of Parkers Prairie, died Monday, May 16, 2011, at Knute-Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Elmo Lutheran Church in rural Parkers Prairie with Rev. Ken Moenck officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Lisa Winters. Burial will take place at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Friday at Lind Family Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Ruby Faye Booen was born January 5, 1917, to David and Essie (Snyder) Booen in Osage, Iowa. Her family moved to Wrightstown Township when she was a young girl. She attended country school and graduated from Wadena High School in 1934. Following her education she helped on the family farm, was a waitress at HiWay Park Ballroom and janitor at Elmo Lutheran Church. She was united in marriage to Raymond Simonson on April 1, 1935, on the family farm in Wrightstown Township. Following their marriage they lived and farmed north of Parkers Prairie where they raised their family. Her husband, Raymond died in July of 1981. Ruby continued living on the farm until moving to Knute-Nelson in 2009. She was a member of Elmo Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid. Ruby enjoyed sewing plastic crafts, dancing, playing cards and spending time with her grandkids.
Ruby is survived by five daughters, Arlene Andreen of Parkers Prairie, Karen (Courtland) Haugen of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Connie (Harvey) Gilb of Vining, Donna (Robert) Kirckof of Parkers Prairie and Wanda (Robert) Brunson of Garfield; a son, Alan (Carol Schroeder) Simonson of Circle Pines; two daughters-in-law, Pat Simonson of La Vista, Nebraska and Jan (Simonson) Keenan of Mankato; 39 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, Donnie Simonson and Gary Simonson; daughter, Cheryl Westergren; grandsons, Mark, Adam and Joshua; five sisters; five brothers; son-in-law, Pete Andreen and daughter-in-law, Billie Simonson.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Joel Andreen, Pat Haugen, Jeff Simonson, Troy Westergren, Jonathan Brunson and Tom Simonson. Honorary pallbearers will be her remaining grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
