Roland H. Quinn, age 89, of Alexandria, formerly of Silver Bay, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Windmill Ponds under the care of Moments Hospice.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria with Rev. Jim Hinson presiding. Full military honors will be accorded by the Minnesota Honor Guard and the Veteran’s Memorial Honor Guard. Interment will take place at Silver Bay Cemetery.

The visitation is one hour prior to the service.

Roland Harold Quinn was born on January 31, 1936, to Leo and Lillian (Martin) Quinn in Marshfield, Wisconsin. As a young child, his family moved to Beaver Bay, where he grew up. He graduated from Two Harbors High School in 1956 and began working in ironwork construction before being drafted into the U.S. Army in October 1958.While on his first leave home, Roland married his high school sweetheart, Lavonne "Bonnie" Carlson, on December 19, 1958. Their wedding was the first held at Palisade Baptist Church in Silver Bay. After their wedding, Roland returned to his service at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina. Following his honorable discharge in 1960, he and Bonnie settled back in Silver Bay, where he resumed work as an ironworker for the Reserve Mining Company. Over the years, he earned several certifications, particularly in quality control. After dedicating 30 years to the company, he faced its closure and transitioned to running his family's business, the Beaver Bay Agate Shop. Roland and Bonnie owned and operated the shop for over a decade. Together they enjoyed spending winters in Arizona and Texas before eventually relocating to Alexandria to be closer to family. He was a former member of Palisade Baptist Church and former volunteer firefighter in Beaver Bay. He was a member of Lake Community Church in Alexandria and was also a devoted member of the Gideons. Roland enjoying fishing, hunting and traveling, having visited all 50 states. One of his most cherished volunteer experiences was assisting at the Rio Grande Bible College. Above all, Roland’s faith and family were the foundation of his life, guiding his actions, relationships, and the many ways he chose to serve others.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lori; brothers-in-law, Elmer Mann and Bill Nelson; and many aunts and uncles.

Roland is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bonnie; daughter, Tamra (Paul) Carlsen of Alexandria; son, Rick (Julie) Quinn of Idaho Springs, Colorado; sisters-in-law, Donna Mann, Sharon Wick, and Bobbi Nelson; brother-in-law, Conrad (Patricia) Carlson; 17 grandchildren; great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
