Roger C. Hanson was born on July 22, 1935, to Hartwick and Alvina (Suchy) Hanson in Millerville. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. Roger attended and graduated from Battle Lake High School. Following his education, Roger enlisted in the United States Air Force where he earned the rank of Master Sergeant. During this time, Roger was united in marriage to Margaret Manning on January 28, 1956, in Liverpool, England. He spent 22 years serving his country. Following his retirement from the military, Roger returned to the Evansville area and worked as a farmer. Roger enjoyed deer and duck hunting as well as fishing. He loved trapping mink and gophers and was locally known as "the Gopher Guy," as he trapped for three nearby counties.
