Roger Austin was born on April 15, 1954, to Russell and Agnes (Goldstein) Sorenson in Alexandria. He was the firstborn and grew up in Erdahl, attending school in Elbow Lake and graduating from Elbow Lake High School in 1972. Roger began working on tractors alongside his dad in seventh grade at Amundson Equipment in Elbow Lake, where he continued to work after high school. He met the love of his life, Wendy Person, in a dairy barn after being introduced by mutual friends. They were married on October 22, 1983, at Becker Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Evansville, where Roger worked on a local farm, and together they raised two daughters, Joy Elizabeth and Emily Jo. Wanting a farm of their own, the family purchased a farm just outside of Rose City in 1992, where they farmed and milked cows. Roger farmed to live, and he lived to farm. He was proud of his John Deere 4020 and enjoyed being outdoors, tending flowers and gardening, collecting antique farm machinery, and attending auctions. He attended Rose City Evangelical Free Church and practiced his faith in the field, where he felt most at home.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Art.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Wendy Sorenson of Rose City; daughters, Joy Sorenson of Alexandria and Emily (Josh) Ritter of Sauk Centre; grandchildren, Tenleigh and Lennox Ritter; most notable of his fur babies, Peaches; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Serving as casket bearers will be Mitch and Janet Clow, Langdon Collum, Tim Radueg, Josh Ritter, and Sharon Dietrich.
