Roberta A. Barrows, age 90, of Parkers Prairie, died Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at St. Williams Living Center.
Memorial services are 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 23, 2016, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Parkers Prairie with Rev. Jeanette Bidne officiating. Music is provided by organist, Julie Lindgren and vocalist, Arlo Peterson. Burial is at Parkers Prairie Cemetery.
Visitation will is 5 -8 pm, Friday at Lind Family Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Roberta Alpha Anderson was born August 2, 1925, in Parkers Prairie, the daughter of Alfred Theodore Anderson and Mildred Blanche (Hadley) Anderson. She was baptized at home in 1936, and confirmed at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1940. She started school in Alexandria and finished her schooling in Parkers Prairie after the family moved there. She was a member of the Parkers Prairie graduating class of 1943. After high school she worked in Parkers Prairie at Anderson's Café, which her father owned.
Roberta "Sis" married Roy Duane "Buster" Barrows on March 17, 1946, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church parsonage. After their marriage she continued to work at Anderson's Café, later worked at Smith's Bakery and Local Gas Co., retiring at age 70.
She maintained her ties to First Evangelical Lutheran throughout her life and was active in its Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Miltona V.F.W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, word puzzles, baking and cooking. She will be remembered for her spunk, the smile she freely shared and, as one of her sons noted, "her art of diplomacy".
Roberta is survived by her children and their spouses; daughter, Penelope "Penny" (Delvin) Noetzelman of Sartell and two sons, John (Linda) Barrows and Richard Barrows both of Parkers Prairie; twin brother, Robert (Colleen) Anderson, Mesa, Arizona; four grandchildren, Stephanie (Scott) Laudenbach, Chris (Angie) Barrows, Kyle (Megan) Barrows and Craig (Becky) Barrows; eight great-grandchildren, Matthew, Ashley, Noel, Allison, Chris, Alyssa, T.J. and Kennedy; a great-great-granddaughter, Stella; sister-in-law, LouAnn Anderson and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Roy; brothers Ted and Jack Anderson' sister Peggy Knutson and grandson Trevor Noetzelman.
Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren.
