Robert "Bob" L. Johnson, age 94, of Hoffman, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Barrett Assisted Living.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria.

Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the funeral service.

A celebration gathering will take place following the service at the funeral home from 3-6 p.m., at the Kensington Community Center.

Robert LeRoy was born on September 18, 1931, to Rush and Clara (Fank) Johnson in Spencer, Iowa. He was the eldest of three children and was raised on the family farm in Ellsworth Township. He graduated from Emmet County School in 1946. Following his education, Bob continued working on the farm and later served in the military, stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, and was honorably discharged following his service. Bob married Joy Irene Iseminger on August 30, 1954, and the couple was blessed with four children. The family later moved to Red Rock Lake, east of Hoffman, Minnesota, where Bob continued farming and ranching while also pursuing a number of business ventures. Bob was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1999. Following Joy’s passing in 2001, he remained on the farm and continued to be active in the community. On June 6, 2018, Bob married Ruby Sabolik and continued as a steady and supportive husband to her and her family. Together, they shared their faith and enjoyed fellowship within their community. Bob had a lifelong passion for farming and all things agriculture and was especially known for the sunflowers and hollyhocks he grew. He was well known for his quick wit, which served him well around the card table while playing 500 and whist. He was also an accomplished pool player. Above all, Bob was a proud father and loving grandfather who treasured time spent with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joy, in 2001; and sister, Virginia Balmer.

Bob is survived by his wife, Ruby; children, Ritchie (Cheryl) Johnson, Kim Johnson, Jackie (Gary) Schimek, and Gail (Bruce) Hedner; stepchildren, Sheri (Clay) Naylor, Gary (Beth) Sabolik, and Greg (Marisa) Sabolik; grandchildren, Reece, Ben, Becky (DuWayne), Addie (Eric), Sam, Tony (Megan), Joy (Dan), Christine (Jared), Cheryl (Troy), Danna, Kiersten (Alex), Brady (Lexi), John, Riley, Ben, Hannah (Raiden) and Jack; several great-grandchildren; brother, Ron (Deb) Johnson; brother-in-law, Merritt Balmer; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
