Robert Leo was born on August 14, 1947, to Henry and Sophie (Heyda) Hinderschied in New Prague. He was one of six children and spent his early years in southern Minnesota before the family eventually settled in Brandon. He attended Brandon schools and worked on the family farm until graduating from Brandon High School in 1965. He entered the United States Army in 1966 and completed his military training at Fort Hood, Texas. He served in Vietnam as an armored personnel carrier driver, received several service medals, and was honorably discharged in 1968. When he returned home, he began working in road construction in southern Minnesota, where he met his future wife. He married Sandra Wegner on October 14, 1972, at Zion Lutheran Church in Lewisville. Together, they started their family before returning to Brandon, where they raised their three children. Bob spent much of his career on the road as a member of Local 49ers, working construction projects throughout Minnesota. When he was home, he made the most of his time with his family until retiring in 2009. Bob loved all things racing. He enjoyed watching races on television and taking his family to the races on Saturday night at the Viking Speedway. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and passing down those traditions to his grandchildren. He enjoyed carpentry, remodeling, and day trips to the casino. Above all, he loved his family and was very proud of his children and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Sandra in 2016.
Bob is survived by his children, Tim (Melissa) Hinderschied of Royalton, Kristine (Kenneth) Pfeffer of Parkers Prairie, and Sarah (Daniel) Klimek of Alexandria; grandchildren, Colton Hinderschied, Aubrey Hinderschied, Derek (Ally) McCallson, Dylan (Brittany) McCallson, Sophie Pfeffer, Dawson Klimek, Kendra Klimek, and Ava Klimek; great-grandchildren, Aydin, Breklyn, Carter, Kase, Caynon, and Beau; brothers, Harvey (Judy) Hinderschied and Randy (Jane) Hinderschied; sisters, Evelyn (Wally) Roers, Adeline (Gary) Kamatchus, and Pat (Tom) Muellerliele and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
