Paul Dale was born on January 6, 1951, the 14th of 17 children, to Wilhelm and Cleo (Atz) Kuhnau in Wadena. When Paul was young, the family moved to a farm near Farwell. He attended school in Alexandria and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1969. Following graduation, Paul briefly worked in the Twin Cities before returning to Alexandria, where he was employed by Larson Furniture in Glenwood and later Belanca in Alexandria. He served in the United States Army National Guard. Paul established his own upholstery business, which continues today under his nephew’s care. He dedicated 47 years to the trade before retiring in January 2021. Paul had a lifelong passion for classic cars, especially his aqua ’57 Chevy and his red Cutlass. He enjoyed traveling, with Hawaii being a favorite destination. On one memorable cruise, he and a friend missed their ship and had to be shuttled out by a small boat, climbing a rope ladder to board—just one of many adventures he embraced in life. He also enjoyed gardening and rug making. Paul will be remembered as a devoted brother, uncle, godfather, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Glen, Don, Bill, Darrell, Roger and Gib; sister, Carol Kuhnau; brother-in-law, Robert Rydberg; sisters-in-law, Patty Kuhnau, Allyn Kuhnau, and Karen L. Kuhnau; nephew, Brent Kuhnau; great-nephew, Ryan Rydberg; and nieces, Tamara Kuhnau, Sheri Major, and Wendy Kuhnau.

Paul is survived by his brothers, Bob (Mary) Kuhnau of Alexandria, Earl Kuhnau of Kensington, Vic Kuhnau of Alexandria, and Doug (Birdie) Kuhnau of Farwell; sisters, Dee Rydberg, Myrt Schmidt, Judi Kuhnau and Barb Chan all of Alexandria, Kathi (Angus) Causley of Illinois; sisters-in-law, Karen M. Kuhnau, Donna Kuhnau, and Elaine Kuhnau; along with many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Neil Kuhnau, Corey Kuhnau, Jon Kuhnau, Jacob Chan, Brad Kuhnau, Steve Kuhnau, and Marc Schmidt.
