Orrel I. Kalpin, age 96, died peacefully, on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at Golden Living Center, Otter Tail Lake.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 19, 2009, at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Kirk Lee officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Gloria Hollatz and vocalist, Dedra Zwieg. Burial will take place at Parkers Prairie Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Sunday at Lind Family Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Orrel Irene Kalpin was born May 6, 1913, to Emil and Randena (Olson) Olson in Parkers Prairie, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Elmo Lutheran Church. Following her graduation from Parkers Prairie High School, she was united in marriage to Erwin Kalpin on May 10, 1932, in Wadena. They farmed together and she also worked at Larson's Hardware in Parkers Prairie for many years, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Her husband, Erwin retired in 1988, at which time they moved into Parkers Prairie. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, participated in Ladies Aid and with Erwin, sang in the choir for 60 years. She liked to bowl, dance, play cards, knit, crochet and other crafts.

Orrel is survived by three sons, Buddy (Eunice) Kalpin of Monticello, Dennis (Ruth) Kalpin and Marshall Kalpin both of Alexandria; a daughter, Kathy (Vinal) Franson of Alexandria; eight grandchildren, Dan Kalpin, Lanny Kalpin, Laurie Erlandson, Nancy Wolf, Susan Empting, Katie Olberg, Jodi Loecke and K.C. Franson; 20 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 71 years, Erwin and seven sisters, Ruth, Helga, Prudence, Selma, Gladys, Ethel and Louise.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
