Norman Clifford was born on March 2, 1934, to George and Josephine (Reese) Sukke in Sauk Centre. He grew up on the family farm located on Fairy Lake by Sauk Centre. Norman joined the U.S. Army on July 28, 1953, and was stationed in Germany. While in the service, he was able to finish his education before his honorable discharge on May 25, 1955.

Norman was united in marriage to Adelia “Della” Krause on August 24, 1958, in Parkers Prairie. They were blessed with four sons, Steven, Timothy, Mark, and Wayne. They lived in a few places in Alexandria until they moved out to Hazel Hill School House which Norman remodeled into a home. In 1972, Norman built their new home west of town by Lake Mary, where they resided until moving back into town in 2018.

Upon his return from the service, Norman worked for a box company in Minneapolis for a short time. He then started working in construction in Alexandria for Iver Anderson and met his future business partner, Harold Suckow. In 1967, they formed S&S Construction in Alexandria. They added Roy Medenwaldt in 1969 and changed the name to SS&M Construction. In the years that followed, they built and remodeled numerous homes and businesses around the Alexandria area. Norman retired from their business in 2012.

Norman was an active member of Shalom Lutheran Church. He enjoyed camping and square dancing with family and friends and playing cards whenever given a chance. He belonged to the Alexandria Round Squares for many years, traveling to other dancing events in the area. Norman enjoyed helping others out with a building project or just a lending hand. He and Della made lots of lefsa and lutefisk over the years and loved getting together with family and friends. When the grandkids were young, Norman and Della loved to babysit whenever they could. As the grandkids grew, they enjoyed going to all their activities.

He was preceded in death by his infant son Mark; son Wayne; parents, George and Josphine Sukke; parents-in-law, Carl and Hilda Krause; sister Donna Mae Ostendorf; brother Leroy Sukke; sisters-in-law, Virginia Harstad, Florence Kluver, Betty-Jane Huizinga; brothers-in-law, Louis Harstad, Marvin Kluver, Duane Huizinga, Walter Krause; and nieces and nephews.
