Norma M. Smith, age 90, of Parkers Prairie, died Saturday, April 30, 2011, at St. William's Living Center in Parkers Prairie.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Esther Lutheran Church in rural Parkers Prairie, with Dawn Reisig, Associate in Ministry, officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Marcia Guenther. Burial will take place at Parkers Prairie Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Friday at Lind Family Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Norma Maclean Smith was born July 4, 1920, to Hugh and Bertha (Gelette) Hall in Parkers Prairie. She grew up in Parkers Prairie, attended public school and graduated from Parkers Prairie High School in 1938. Following her education she moved to Moline, Illinois to attend beauty school. She was united in marriage to Herbert Smith December 6, 1941, in Missouri. Following their marriage they lived in East Moline, where she worked at the Rock Island Arsenal while her husband served in the U.S. Army. To this union, two sons were born, Linn in 1947, and Roger in 1949. They farmed in Geneseo, Illinois from 1951 - 1960, until moving to Eagle Bend, Minnesota where they continued farming. Norma worked at the Parkers Prairie Elementary School as a librarian for many years. Her husband, Herbert died in 1981. Norma continued living on the farm until moving to Parkers Prairie in 1993. She moved to St. William's Living Center, making it her final home for the past six years. She was a member of Esther Lutheran Church, Homemaker's Club, Degree of Honor and was named President of the Resident Council at St. William's Living Center. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, quilting, playing bingo, family genealogy, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Norma is survived by one son, Linn (Germaine) Smith of Bertha; one daughter-in-law, Marlene (Bob) Brown of Parkers Prairie; one brother, Hugh (Roberta) Hall of Geneseo, Illinois; six grandchildren, Tony (Terrie) Smith, Tricia (Rob) Christenson, Tracy (Lorin) Lapidus, Tiffany Smith, Nancy Chrismer and Brad (Sheena) Smith; eight great-grandchildren, Michael, Libby, Saren, Emily, Madelyn, Carson, Dawson and Madison and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Tony Smith, Tricia Christenson, Nancy Chrismer, Brad Smith, Tracy Smith, and nephew, Kenny Atwell. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughter, Tiffany Smith and great-grandchildren.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; and son, Roger in 1991; three brothers, Maurice, Glen and Kenny and four sisters, Hazel, Alice, Veda and Jean.
