Michael Gordon was born on November 19, 1952, to Gordon and Arlene (Trisko) Schmidt in Parkers Prairie. He was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and attended Country School District 1466 in Effington Township through the eighth grade. He graduated from Parkers Prairie High School with the Class of 1970. Following graduation, Michael began working for Avon Silo Company. After a workplace accident resulted in an extended recovery of nearly a year, he set out on a motorcycle trip to Alaska with his cousin, Teddy, later traveling to Florida with another cousin before accepting a position with Western Roofing in San Francisco. Michael was united in marriage to Diann Waldorf, and together they welcomed two children, Christine in 1976 and Gordy in 1982. Although they made their home east of Urbank, Michael's work took the family across the country, including extended stays in Hawaii, California, and Washington. Due to health concerns, he retired in the mid-1990s. Retirement allowed Michael to enjoy a quieter pace of life close to home. He took pride in caring for his property, enjoyed visiting with friends around Urbank, and looked forward to hunting, fishing, motorcycle rides, snowmobiling, and scenic drives whenever he could. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family. During the last six years of his life, Michael was a resident of St. William's Living Center in Parkers Prairie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law Amanda Schmidt; and brother-in-law Jim Waldorf.
Michael is survived by his two children, Christine Schmidt of Benson and Gordon Schmidt of Parkers Prairie; six grandchildren, Dustin, Joseph, Allissa, Trinity, Isaac, and Aubrey; four great-grandchildren, Kiya, Kinzley, Kohen, and Anorah; four siblings, Linda (Leon) Hoppe of Miltona, Patrick Schmidt and Joseph Schmidt both of Parkers Prairie, and John Schmidt of Almora; along with many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Urn bearers are Dustin, Joseph, Isaac, and Aubrey. Honorary urn bearers are his remaining grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
