Merlyn E. Ordal, age 76, of Parkers Prairie, died Sunday, February 27, 2011, at his home following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at First Baptist Church in Parkers Prairie with Rev. Paul Twist officiating. Burial will take place at Sverdrup Cemetery in Underwood, Minnesota.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Merlyn Everett Ordal was born September 18, 1934, to Almer and Anna (Sholberg) Ordal in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. He attended public school and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1952. Following his education, he worked at Armour & Company in Minneapolis for two years before returning to Fergus Falls to work at the State Hospital as a psychiatric technician. He joined the U.S. Army in 1955, and served in Germany for a year before his honorable discharge in 1957. He returned to Fergus Falls and continued working at the Fergus Falls State Hospital. He was united in marriage to Carol Kleeblatt on August 26, 1961, at Faulkton, South Dakota. Following their marriage he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing at Mankato Sate College. They moved to Hastings where he taught psychiatric nursing at the State Hospital. In 1966, he attended the Minneapolis School of Anesthesia, graduating in 1968, as an anesthetist. Following his education, he worked at Anoka State Hospital until 1970, Community Hospital in Milaca until 1974, and Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar until July of 1975. They moved to Faribault in 1975, where Merlyn worked at Rice County District One Hospital until retiring in 1994. Following his retirement, they moved to Ottertail before moving to Parkers Prairie in 2004. In his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, renovating his home, hunting and golfing. Most of all, he enjoyed the blessings of the Lord, spending time with his family and friends and speaking of his love for the Lord.

Merlyn is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol; daughter, Janda Ordal of Parkers Prairie; son, Jeffrey (Heather) Ordal of Faribault; sister, Verla Hohman of Marquette, Michigan; brother-in-law, Irvin (Imy) Kleeblatt of Conyers, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Bryan, Benn, Elizabeth, Colby, Hogan, Jovie and Jaxie; nieces, nephews and cousins; along with many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Loren Ordal; and two brothers-in-law, Guy Spitzberg and Charlie Hohman.

Pallbearers will be Bob Thiel, Denny Wilson, Cliff Westling, Andy Isaacson, Colby Ordal, Bryan Westfall, Benn Westfall and Dann Ordal. Honorary pallbearers will be Dick Conroy, Merle Bodeen, Irvin Kleeblatt, Rick Koss, Bob Lackman, Bruce Guttormson, Dave Mayer, Bob Steffenson, Dale Steinberg, Marlyn Wolbert, Tom Zimmerman and Merle Johnson.
