Merlin H. Hollatz, age 66, of Parkers Prairie, died Friday, January 22, 2010, at his home following an illness.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, January 28, 2010, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie with Rev. Shawn Ethridge officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Maureen Diedrich and musicians, Johnathan Moeller, Dan Wilken and Lynn Schulz. Spring burial will take place at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Effington Township.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday at Lind Family Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Merlin Harvey Hollatz was born April 25, 1943, to Paul A. and Elda A. (Johlke) Hollatz at the Liebold Hospital in Parkers Prairie. He was baptized May 23, 1943, at Zion Lutheran Church, North Effington, and confirmed April 14, 1957, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Henning. He lived on a farm in Effington Township until 1944, when the family moved to West Miltona. In 1955, they moved to Henning where Merlin attended Henning Public Schools. Following his education he worked at a gas station and an auto body shop in Henning and a Ford garage in Rosemount. He served in the U.S. Army from January 1963 - December 1964. Before his honorable discharge, he was united in marriage to Gloria Karger on May 30, 1964, at Zion Lutheran Church, North Effington. Following their marriage, they lived in Alexandria where Merlin worked for Carlson Music from 1965 - 1971. They moved to Parkers Prairie in 1971, where he owned and operated Hollatz Radio & T.V. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, its dartball team and the Happy Jammers music group. He enjoyed playing music, dancing, gardening and just fixing things, mechanical as well as electronics.

Merlin is survived by his wife, Gloria; his mother, Elda Hollatz of Parkers Prairie; two sons, Myron (Melissa Brown) Hollatz of Morris and Michael (Janice) Hollatz of Parkers Prairie; a daughter, Marlene (Dave Norris) Hollatz Blowers of Mankato; three brothers, Vernon (Frieda) Hollatz of Parkers Prairie, Jerry (Donna Reese ) Hollatz of Carlos and Eugene (Vickie) Hollatz of Henning; two sisters, Bonnie (Bill) Brunson of Parkers Prairie and Barbara (David) Nelson of Clitherall; a brother-in-law, Dennis (Donna) Karger of Parkers Prairie; three grandchildren, Aaron Blowers, Tanner Hollatz, and Tyler Hollatz; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Hollatz, in 2007.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
