Mary M. Peterson, age 69, of Parkers Prairie, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Monday, March 30, 2015, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie with Rev. Kirk Lee officiating. Music is provided by organist, Maureen Diedrich and vocalists, Arlo Peterson and Kelly Martin. Burial is at Parkers Prairie Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Sunday at Immanuel Lutheran Church and will continue one hour prior to the service.
Mary Margie Peterson was born January 23, 1946, to Walter and Margery (Leuer) Dolan in Hamel, Minnesota. She was baptized April 28, 1946, and confirmed March 22, 1959, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Maple Grove. She attended Country School District 120 in Hamel, St. John's Parochial School in Maple Grove and graduated from Wayzata High School. She graduated from Augsburg College in St. Paul where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Following her graduation, Mary started her career in the Wayzata School District where she taught for seven years before moving to Parkers Prairie. Mary was united in marriage to Paul Peterson October 14, 2000, at Lutheran Island Bible Camp, rural Henning. She retired after 30 years of teaching from the Parkers Prairie Elementary School May 27, 2004. Mary was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she loved attending Tuesday Bible Breakfast, was chairman for Cabin Lois, had served as church treasurer for several years and was beginning to oversee the library. Mary served on the Parkers Prairie School Board and was also its treasurer. She enjoyed water painting, reading, flower-gardening, cooking, decorating her tree for Easter, Red Hatters, and volunteering throughout the community, especially as a kinship mentor. She loved traveling and planning mystery trips, riding her bicycle, and any activity with her best friend and husband, Paul.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Joseph Dolan.
Mary is survived by her husband of 14 years, Paul; beloved dog, Louie; two brothers, Don (Sharon) Dolan of Scottsdale, Arizona and Warren "Punk" (Marlene) Dolan of Rogers; three step-children, Lisa (Steven) Kunkel of Blaine, Jay Peterson of Starbuck and Kevin Peterson of Wadena; four step-grandchildren, Randi Kunkel, Shawn Kunkel, Tyler Kunkel and Jaelene Zimmer and a host of friends.
Pallbearers are Charlie Klimek, Ryan Ruckheim, Kenny Ruckheim, Rick Hammer, Roger Hochsprung and Roger Rewitzer.
