A candle was lit on the kitchen altar for my dear Aunt Marilyn this morning, with prayers offered. She lives on in our hearts and minds so long as we keep telling her story.

Wasn't she just the kindest gal?! We miss her on East Lake Carlos. So well read. She was a great patron of the Public Library in Alex. Beautifully turned out with stylish clothes and jewelry. She grew succulent tomatoes, wonderful cukes and she used to leave them on our deck railing. We "shared" a birthday sort of. I used to pick peonies out of my mom's garden and give them to her on her birthday. I loved Marilyn. I will miss her forever.

We lost Marilyn Schilling on St. Patrick’s Day 2022 morning a few minutes before 10AM Ruskin, Florida time. By her own admission, Marilyn had recently proclaimed readiness for the next adventure in her life.

Cheerful, vibrant and social to the very end of her days, her 98 year old heart failed her being which in turn supported the love she bestowed upon all others for all of those 98 incredible years.

Even though she leaves a sad place in our hearts by her departure, we are consoled knowing that her presence in our lives - made each of us a better person.

I was introduced to Marilyn at a summer garden party on the north end of Lake Ida. Marilyn was easy to get to know and we formed an immediate bond that resulted in an invitation to visit her winter home in Ruskin FL a few years later.

Marilyn was so proud of her Florida home that she and Gordy built together back in the 70's. Adorning the walls of Marilyn's Florida home are memorabilia of their adventuresome and fruitful lives together evoking memories of countless good times past.

Her keen memory and recollection were always grounds for an energizing conversation about Alexandria/and the Carlos farm/and the Lake Carlos cabin/and their move to Florida/ as the third house in the complex known as Riverside Club in Ruskin FL.

Marilyn never lost her enthusiasm and recollection of those “historical” early days and I loved to converse and compare experiences with her about my early days in Alexandria growing up on Lake Carlo in the 1950's.

It didn’t take us too long to fall in love with this special area of Florida due to Marilyn’s hospitality. We recently became “hooked” and are now fledgling snowbirds from Minnesota ourselves - evoking good thoughts and recollections of Marilyn Schilling for many years to come.

So on the special Irish eve of St. Patrick's, we shall continue to toast Marilyn, and her Irish heritage and wish her Godspeed in the next exciting venture of an already exciting life - a life well-lived!
