Margaret C. Johnson, age 91, of Alexandria, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at her home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Church of St. Mary in Alexandria with Father Matthew Kuhn officiating. Entombment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m., with a 4 p.m. prayer service, Wednesday, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria and will continue one hour prior to the service.
Margaret Christine was born on January 20, 1932, to Fred and Christine (Conzone) Sparish in Cumberland, Wisconsin. She was confirmed at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Cumberland. Margaret graduated from Cumberland High School in 1950. She was united in marriage to Harvey Johnson on January 2, 1960, in Minneapolis. They moved from Minneapolis to Alexandria in 1968, where they raised their four children. Margaret held various jobs eventually retiring from 3M. She enjoyed putting together puzzles, painting towels, gardening, canning, baking, and playing cards and bingo. Margaret also enjoyed traveling, attending Senior Club, and going to the casino. Overall, she especially loved spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey; and several siblings.
Margaret is survived by her four children, Judy (Phil) Verges of Spring Valley, Wisconsin, Greg (Bonnie) Johnson of Miltona, Jeff (Carol) Johnson of Willmar, and Rick (Joan) Johnson of Alexandria; 15 grandchildren, Rachel, Gabe (Emma), and Sam Verges, Tyler (Lauren) Johnson, Brianna (Cam) Gjersvik, Chris Velde, Megan (Steve) Runkle, Mitchell (Allie) Johnson, Mitchell, Matthew, and Zachary Wiedeman, Shanna (Mitchell Brown) Johnson, Scott (Lauren) Johnson, Heather (Aaron) Polinder, and Renee Johnson; nine great-grandchildren, Abby, Mikayla, Kayden, Carter, Wesley, Lenora, Liam, Mack, Rosland, and two more on the way; brother, Chester Sparish of Cumberland, Wisconsin; sister, Louise Jennrich of Nevada, Iowa; along with many special nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Pallbearers are Megan Runkle, Shanna Johnson, Rachel Verges, Heather Polinder, Brianna Gjersvik, and Renee Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are Gabe Verges, Sam Verges, Tyler Johnson, Chris Velde, Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Wiedeman, Matthew Wiedman, Zachary Wiedeman, and Scott Johnson.
