Marcia Jane Olerud

Marcia J. Olerud, age 69, of Alexandria, died on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at her home, surrounded by family, under the care of Knute Nelson Hospice.

Celebration of Life Service is 11 a.m., Friday, July 19, 2024, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria with Deacon Nathaniel Daubner presiding. Private family interment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Harwood, North Dakota.

Visitation is 5-7 p.m., Thursday, July 18th, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria and will continue one hour prior to the service. There will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 9:45 a.m., followed by a Nightingale Tribute on Friday. 

 Marcia Jane was born February 14, 1955, to Kenneth and LaDonna (Archer) Sorvik in Fargo, North Dakota. She graduated from Moorhead High School in 1973. Following her education, Marcia worked various jobs and while working as a nursing assistant in Perham, met the love of her life and future husband, Andrew. She moved to Alexandria to attend Alexandria Technical College where she pursued her LPN degree. Marcia was united in marriage to Andrew Olerud on May 4, 1990, in Moorhead. Following their marriage, they made their home in Alexandria where she worked at Knute Nelson, Bethany, St. William’s in Parkers Prairie and the Care Center in Evansville until she suffered severe stroke in 2005, and retired early. Marcia was a member of Church of St. Mary. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards, and was an avid Minnesota Viking and Twins fan, wearing purple all winter long. Marcia above all else, loved her children and grandchildren and the time spent with them and friends.

 She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Barb Swanson; brother, Kent Sorvik; son, Jeremiah Kapaun; and daughter, Jena Kapaun.

Marcia is survived by her husband of 34 years, Andrew; five children, Jessica Kapaun of Fargo, North Dakota, Jane Kapaun of Alexandria, Rachel (Aaron) Ostlund of Fargo, North Dakota, Leo Olerud of Alexandria, and Andrew Olerud, Jr., of Detroit Lakes; brother, Doug (Sandra) Sorvik of Henderson, Nevada; ten grandchildren, Taye Kapaun, Tavarious Kapaun, Jos’aph Kapaun, Miles Kapaun, Amiah Kapaun, Marvel Kapaun, Armiao Lucio, Arlo Ostlund, Benjamin Olerud, and Prudence Olerud; and a great-grandson, Michael Myles.

 Urnbearers will be her grandchildren.
