Marcene M. Diekow, age 80, of Alexandria, died on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at Prairie Senior Cottages in Alexandria.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 29, 2020, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria with Rev. Terry Finnern officiating. Music is provided by pianist, Ivy Christensen. The service will be live streamed from Marcene’s obituary page on the funeral home website and broadcast from the funeral home parking lot on 105.3 FM. Interment will take place at St. James Lutheran Church in Effington Township.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m., Friday at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria and will continue one hour prior to the service.
Marcene Madline was born on March 18, 1940, to Fredrick and Elsie (Ziesemer) Dreger at home in Miltona Township. She was baptized and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church in South Effington. She was raised in Parkers Prairie, attended Country School District #73, Parkers Prairie High School and graduated from Rockford High School in Rockford, Illinois. Following her education, Marcene worked at a department store in Rockford. She was united in marriage to Donovan Diekow on September 27, 1958, in Olympia, Washington. Following their marriage, they returned home to farm and had four children. Following the sale of their farm, Marcene worked at a laundry store and Knute Nelson in Alexandria until she retired in 1995. She and Donovan lived in Winona Shores before moving to Bethany on the Lake. She was a former member of St. James Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aide and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of West Miltona and its Ladies Aide. She enjoyed embroidering, sewing, crocheting, gardening, and fishing with her husband.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Elsie Dreger; infant sister at birth; son, James Diekow; sisters, Marilyn (Harold) Bogard and Beverly (Stan) Soderquist; and husband of 61 years, Donovan Diekow on August 13, 2020.
Marcene is survived by her daughter, Deb Clough of Zimmerman; two sons, Bruce (Miran) Diekow of Manor, Texas and Michael Diekow of Alexandria; two brothers, Wally (Nancy) Dreger of Dawsonville, Georgia and Edward (Marilyn) Dreger of Rockford, Illinois; two grandchildren, Teddy and Sarah; great-grandson, Samuel; along with several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Mark Maloney, Ryan Diekow, Bob Christensen, Gary Soderquist, Gayle Balaban, and Carol Ingberg.
