Lyla R. Lindrud, age 88, of Parkers Prairie, died Thursday, October 13, 2011, at St. William's Living Center.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at Elmo Lutheran Church, Elmo Township with Rev. Del Moen and Rev. Kenneth Moenck officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Lisa Winter and vocalists, Kim Haugen and Gail Guse. Burial will take place at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Tuesday at Lind Family Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Lyla Ruth Hanson was born February 12, 1923, to Oley and Rosa (Simonson) Hanson at home in Elmo Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Elmo Lutheran Church by Rev. J. L. Drage. She attended School District #99 and graduated from Parkers Prairie High School in 1941. She was united in marriage to Chester Riedel on March 15, 1947, at Elmo Lutheran Church. She worked as a clerk in the Parkers Prairie Hardware Store for 43 years, first for Arnold Larson and then for Ed and Jean Kinsel. Lyla retired in 1988. She was united in marriage to Clifford Lindrud on January 9, 1988, at Elmo Lutheran Church. Following their marriage, they traveled to Oregon, Iowa, California, and Washington state. They also took a bus trip to Washington D.C., during cherry blossom season with the brothers and sisters in 1989. It was a great time by the entire family. Her husband, Cliff died in 2002. Lyla continued lived in her house in Parkers Prairie until her heath failed. She then moved to Assisted Living in Henning. She moved to St. William's Living Center in August of 2010. She was a life-long member of Elmo Lutheran Church, where she was actively involved in its Ladies Aid, past Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School teacher. She had a beautiful voice and could easily be heard on Sunday mornings. She enjoyed singing with Beverly Simonson Lenz at weddings and funerals. She was also a member of the Miltona V.F.W. Auxiliary. Lyla loved to work in the garden and especially enjoyed showing the resulting, beautiful flowers to everyone. She was a terrific cook. Her hot dishes and white sugar cookies were family favorites. Lyla was always game, whether it be to play marbles or the card game of Canasta and had a knack for knowing what her competitor was going to do next. She and her husband, Cliff loved to dance and she especially enjoyed visiting with family and friends.

Lyla is survived by her brother, Duane (Carol) Hanson of Parkers Prairie; sister-in-law, Alice Hanson of Henning; step-daughters, Jacki Evey of Oregon and Joann Jost of California; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Chester Riedel and Cliff Lindrud; sisters, Marion Downing, Norma Lukken and Thelma Payne; and brothers, Maynard Hanson, Orvy Hanson and Vernon Hanson.

Pallbearers will be her nephews, Jim Lukken, Jeff Lukken, Bruce Hanson, Dale Downing, Jerry Hanson, Dan Hanson, Gene Payne and Dave Payne.
