Loretta M. Buker, age77, of Alexandria, formerly of Waseca, died Friday, August 7, 2010, at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Rev. Mark Astrup officiating. Music will be provided by organist and vocalist, Kim Byrnes. A private family graveside will take place at Parkers Prairie Cemetery.
Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.
Loretta Mae Buker was born March 23, 1933, to Alva and Hazel (Barker) Clark in Sparta, Wisconsin. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. Her family lived in Ghent, Minnesota before moving to Waseca when Loretta was 11 years old. She graduated from Waseca High School in 1951. She was united in marriage to Marvin O. Buker on June 14, 1953, at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca. Following their marriage she worked as a bookkeeper at Waseca Farmer's Elevator and as a proofreader at Brown Printing in Waseca. Loretta and Marvin moved to Alexandria in 1982, following her retirement. She was a long-time member of Calvary Lutheran Church and was active in the Newcomer's Group in Alexandria. She enjoyed listening to country music and was a regular at Midwest Country Theatre in Sandstone, Minnesota. Her hobbies included knitting, crafts, seeing the country and spending time with her family.
Loretta is survived by her husband of 57 years, Marvin; two daughters, Pamela (Patrick) Furlong of Elk River and Jean (Lawrence) Lundquist of Good Thunder, Minnesota; a son, Randall (Debora) Buker of Parkers Prairie; a sister, Marion Maertens of Mankata; four grandchildren, Heather Furlong, Scott Furlong, Brian Furlong and David (Megan) Furlong; a great-grandson, Collin Furlong; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lorna Rose; and brother, Delbert Clark.
