LeRoy “Roy” G. Shafer, age 82, of Alexandria, died on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Edgewood Senior Living in Alexandria.
A celebration of life gathering will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria. Guests are encouraged to dress casually and stay for food and fellowship. Interment of Roy and Cheryl’s urn will follow at 2:30 p.m. at North Star Cemetery in St. Cloud.
LeRoy George was born on July 27, 1943, to Robert and Louise (Lane) Shafer in Hallock, Minnesota. Roy met Cheryl Aleshire, and they were united in marriage in September of 1963. Together, they moved to St. Cloud, where they were blessed with five sons. The family eventually relocated to Benson, where they purchased and operated Roy’s Service Station until 1989. Roy’s dream was to own a resort, and in late 1989 they purchased Mill Lake Resort in Farwell, which they operated until 2000. After retirement, Roy’s passion was woodworking, building coffee tables and end tables, as well as mowing grass and plowing snow for his neighbors. He was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed bowling.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Cheryl in 2024; infant son Robert Bradley; brother James; parents-in-law, Milo and Cecile Aleshire; brothers-in-law, Dwight, Terry, Keith Aleshire, and Tom O’Hara; and sisters-in-law, Dariel O’Hara and Denese Aleshire.
Roy is survived by his four sons, Bradley (Julie) Shafer of Alexandria, Steven (Teresa) Shafer of Marriottsville, Maryland, Mark (Katie) Shafer of Grand Rapids, and Dennis (Pam) Shafer of St. Cloud; brother, Robert (Karen) Shafer of Leonard; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
