Leonard M. “Lenny” Suchy, age 86, of Alexandria, died on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at St. Cloud Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria. Full military honors will be accorded by the Minnesota Honor Guard, American Legion Post #87, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #936, Vietnam Veterans of American Chapter #235, and the Marine Corps League Detachment #1409. Interment service will take place at St. Nicholas Catholic Cemetery, Belle River.
The visitation is 5-7 p.m., Friday, November 29, 2024, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria and one hour prior to the service.
Leonard Mathias was born on February 18, 1938, to Clem and Theresa (Revering) Suchy in Urbank, Minnesota. He grew up in Miltona and, after completing his education, worked on a farm in North Dakota before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. Following his honorable discharge, Lenny returned home to Miltona. He was united in marriage to Doreen “Sue” Larson on April 23, 1960, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Over the years, Lenny and Sue lived in various small towns before settling in Coon Rapids in 1967, where they purchased a home. Lenny worked for Moorhead Machinery & Boiler Co. for 37 years, retiring in 2000. Following his retirement, he and Sue moved to a home on Lake Mary. Throughout his life, Lenny was a mechanic, father to four children and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling with Sue.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary (Rod) Grimsgard, Theresa Anderson, Sylvia Kotz, Charlotte (Al) Johnson, and Catherine (Carl) Koelln; and grandson, Dakota Suchy.
Lenny is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sue; son, Scott (Jenny) Suchy of Isanti; three daughters, Sandra (Martin) Gardner of Coon Rapids, Sheryl (Rob) Evelius of Coon Rapids, and Suzanne (Dave) Bundrock of Big Lake; brothers, Clem (Cheryl) Suchy of Miltona and Larry (Polly) Suchy of Rogers, Arkansas; brother-in-law, Andy Anderson and Ron Kotz; 11 grandchildren, Ben Gardner, Nathan (Tanya) Gardner, Makayla (Dan) Bakkum, Stevie Suchy, Sienna Suchy, Anthony (Alisha) Casper, Andrew (Chandra) Casper, Alannah (Matt) Peters, Alex Evelius, Nicole (Wes) Schmatz, Colton Bundrock; 11 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Olivia, and Aaron Casper, Paxton and Hazel Casper, Max Gardner, Charlotte and Natalie Gardner, Blake Swisher, Owen Peters, and Ryott Bredeson; along with many nieces and nephews.
Urn bearers are his grandsons.
