A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria with Rev. Jim Hinson presiding. Interment will take place at Silver Bay Cemetery.

Lavonne “Bonnie” Haldis Quinn was born on August 5, 1939, to Melvin and Grace (Sornberger) Carlson in Cloquet. The family lived there for a short time before settling in Silver Bay, where Bonnie grew up. She attended school in Two Harbors and graduated from high school in 1957. Bonnie was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Roland Quinn, on December 19, 1958, while he was home on his first leave from military service. Their wedding was the first held at Palisade Baptist Church in Silver Bay. Following their marriage, Bonnie joined Roland at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina, where he was stationed. After Roland’s honorable discharge in 1960, the couple returned to Silver Bay, where Bonnie devoted herself to raising their children. Later in life, Bonnie and Roland began traveling throughout the United States, buying and selling agates at malls and mineral shows. Eventually, they became owners and operators of the family business, the Beaver Bay Agate Shop, which they ran together for more than a decade. They also enjoyed spending winters in Arizona and Texas before eventually relocating to Alexandria to be closer to family. Bonnie was a former member of Palisade Baptist Church in Silver Bay and later became a member of Lake Community Church in Alexandria. Her faith was central to her life. She was a devoted member of the Gideons Auxiliary and taught numerous Bible studies throughout the years. Bonnie also enjoyed making jewelry and beadwork, sharing her talents with many jewelry stores. One of her most cherished volunteer experiences was serving at Rio Grande Bible College. Above all, Bonnie’s faith and family were most important to her and the foundation of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roland; daughter, Lori; brothers-in-law, Elmer Mann and Bill Nelson; niece Beth Ann Kindstrand; and many aunts and uncles.
Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Tamra (Paul) Carlsen of Alexandria; son, Rick (Julie) Quinn of Idaho Springs, Colorado; sisters, Donna Mann, Sharon Wick, and Bobbi Nelson; brother, Conrad (Patricia) Carlson; 17 grandchildren; along with many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
