Kenneth Aloys Schoen was born on May 18, 1927, in St. Paul, Minnesota, the oldest of four children of Aloys and Susan (Beckers) Schoen. He graduated from Cretin High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul. Ken enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 and served during World War II until his honorable discharge. While attending college, he met his future wife, Virginia Mae Murphy, who was studying at St. Catherine University. They were united in marriage on October 6, 1951, in Chinook, Montana. The couple lived in St. Paul, where Ken began his career with 3M. Together, Ken and Virginia raised their six children in St. Paul. In 1970, his work with 3M took the family to Italy, where they lived until 1977. Ken retired from 3M in 1989 and he and Virginia made their home on Lobster Lake near Alexandria, Minnesota. For 34 years, they spent their winters in Wickenburg, Arizona. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Brandon and, more recently, the Church of St. Mary in Alexandria. Ken’s greatest pride was his wife and family, and he treasured every moment spent together.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings.

Ken is survived by his wife of 74 years, Virginia; six children, John (Vanessa) Schoen of Lloyd, Montana, Susan (Brian) Kangas of Greenfield, Wisconsin, Kathryn Wegman of Canandaigua, New York, Paul (Mary) Schoen of Tucson, Arizona, Thomas (Lisa) Schoen of Birchwood, Wisconsin, and Matthew (Laura) Schoen of Delano, Minnesota; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Crouse and Kay Tennison; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Memorials preferred to the Knights of Columbus at the Church of St. Mary's in Alexandria, MN or the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Anthony of Padua in Wickenburg, AZ.
