Obituary

Kathie M. Korman, age 75, of Alexandria, died following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, surrounded by her family at home.

A celebration of life service will be held in the Spring.

Kathie Marie was born on July 4, 1950, to Donald and Phyllis (Harper) Millmann in Blue Earth. She grew up in the Delavan area, graduating from high school in 1968. She continued her education at St. Cloud State College, where she worked as an executive secretary for the vice president while earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Education. While attending college, Kathie was united in marriage to Douglas Korman on June 25, 1971, at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Delavan. Early in their marriage, Kathie and Doug enjoyed spending weekends camping and visiting friends in Colorado. Following graduation, Kathie and Doug moved to Alexandria. There, she worked for New York Life Insurance as a secretary and later served as a long-term substitute teacher at Parkers Prairie High School. Kathie then began her 36-year career at Long Prairie High School as a business education teacher. Following her retirement in 2011, Kathie cherished the time she spent caring for her grandchildren, who were truly the center of her world. She made it a priority that they learned how to swim and was always happy to help with transportation to lessons and sports practices. Kathie also hosted an annual “Princess Party” for her granddaughters, a tradition that meant so much to her. The family enjoyed summer trips together to Kamp Dels, where her grandson Lucas proudly served as her protector in the swimming pool. Kathie was also honored to serve as the confirmation sponsor for her grandson Austin, a role she held in high regard as she encouraged him in his faith. She also cherished her friendship with her neighbor, Sharon Slack, with whom she shared daily “walks and special talks,” along with many outings to local concerts and Minnesota Twins games. Kathie will be deeply missed for her quiet, youthful, and sometimes sarcastic sense of humor. She was known to be a bit gullible and often found herself the subject of a good-natured joke. Whether people were laughing with her—or occasionally at her—Kathie had a special way of bringing laughter and joy to those around her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather Ernest Abbas; and brother George.

Kathie is survived by her husband of 54 years, Doug; two sons, Jeffrey (Carrie) Korman of Miltona and Eric Korman of Alexandria; five grandchildren, Austin Johnson of Minneapolis, Lucas and McKenzie Korman of Miltona, and Tessa and Erica Korman of Alexandria; five siblings, Thomas (Julie) Millmann, Donna (Jim) Beckmann, Beverly (Robert) Wilson, with whom she shared a deep and precious bond, Calvin (Connie) Millmann, and Kari (Scott) Schultz; along with many nieces and nephews, especially her treasured niece Chelsey Wilson.
