Karen Lou Johnson was born on November 22, 1944, the youngest of seven children, to Truman and Emma (Garber) Johnson in Jackson, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm near Alpha, Minnesota and graduated from Jackson High School in 1962. She attended secretarial school in Mankato before working in the Jackson area. Karen met the love of her life on a blind date and married Gilbert Kuhnau on September 3, 1966, in Jackson. The couple made their home on a farm near Farwell. Karen worked for Fingerhut in Alexandria, was a homemaker, and finished her career, working for over 20 years, at Alexandria Opportunities Center retiring in 2012. Karen was proud to be the mother of her adopted daughters, Connie Lynn and Brenda Kay, and loved being a grandma to their children. Having the kids and grandkids at her house brought her great joy. Karen’s hobbies included cardmaking, scrapbooking, stamping, knitting, and baking. When her family came to visit, she made an extra effort to serve their favorite food and worked diligently to make every card she sent personalized precisely to its recipient.
