Joyce Caroline was born on June 13, 1943, to Albert and Eleanora (Koep) Turchin in Parkers Prairie. She was baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Urbank and confirmed at St. Edward Catholic Church in Henning. She grew up in Almora where she attended country school and graduated from Henning High School in 1961. Following her education, Joyce moved to Minneapolis where she worked with Bell Telephone Co., for five years. Joyce was united in marriage to George “Shorty” Revering on January 22, 1966, at St. William’s Catholic Church in Parkers Prairie. Following their marriage, they made their home in Parkers Prairie where she worked with Dr. Struthers as a receptionist/bookkeeper. While raising their family, Joyce worked as a bookkeeper from home for Revering Group, LLC. Together, Joyce and Shorty also owned and operated Valley Telephone of Browns Valley, Minnesota and Parkers Lumber for 15 years. Joyce went out on her own and started her specialty shop, R’Nook which she enjoyed running for 12 years. Joyce and Shorty were pillars of the Parkers Prairie Community and were well known for their philanthropic lifestyle of giving and helping Parkers become a better place to live. She was a member of St. William’s Catholic Church, Funeral Committee, Christian Mothers and the Parkers Prairie Fireman’s Auxiliary. She was a volunteer for the Parkers Prairie Food Shelf and Parkers Prairie Bloodmobile for 25 years. Joyce enjoyed life, especially playing cards and gambling at local casinos with friends. Her infectious smile, big hugs and witty one-liners will be greatly missed. A special thank you to her devoted friends, the staff at Alomere Health, and the Parkers community for the outpouring of love and support especially as Joyce’s health began to decline.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, “Shorty” five days earlier; her parents; infant son, David; sister, Ethel Barker; brother-in-law, Bob Barker; niece, Pam Barker and infant granddaughter, Avery Revering.
Joyce is survived by her three sons, George “Dean” (Sue) Revering of Garfield, Dan Revering of Webster, South Dakota and Derek (Amy) Revering of Parkers Prairie; seven grandchildren, Parker, McKenzie, Andrew, David, Alyssa, Payton and Adyson; three nephews, Bob (Cathy) Barker, Randy (Dawn) Barker and Kevin (Lisa) Barker; three nieces, Deb (Steve) Emery, Deanna (Dave) Kohler and Roxanne (Steve) Kronemann; along with Shorty’s extended family and devoted friends.
