Josephine A. "Josie" Nelson, age 77, of Carlos, died peacefully, Thursday, December 15, 2011, at Prairie Senior Cottages in Alexandria, following her struggle with Alzheimer's.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River with Fr. Dave Petron officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Marlyn Lehmkuhl, vocalists, Marcie Vickerman and Stephanie Halverson and the Belles of St. Nicholas. Burial will take place at Geneva Cemetery in Alexandria Township.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Monday at the Lind Family Funeral Home in Miltona and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Josephine Agnes "Josie" was born July 3, 1934, to Anton and Josephine (Botzet) Hauer at home on the family farm in Eagle Bend. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River. She attended District #65, Country School. Following her education she was united in marriage to Joseph Steidl and to this union six children were born. Josie was united in marriage to Duane Nelson, of Pelican Rapids on June 7, 1975, at Alexandria. Following their marriage they lived in Carlos where they raised their family and Josie began working for 3M in Alexandria. Following her retirement in December of 1994, she and her husband enjoyed winters in Arizona and camping in the summer. Josie enjoyed traveling, fishing, playing guitar and singing. She especially enjoyed visiting with family and friends. She spent the past three years living at Prairie Senior Cottages in Alexandria and the last two weeks under Hospice care. She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River. Blessed be her memory.
Josie is survived by her husband of 36 years, Duane; five daughters, Karen (Shaun) Fennern of Lucan, Minnesota, Laurel (Ken) Schlosser of Alexandria, Paulette (Karl) Grosenick of Carlos, Jo (Tim) Oberg of Eagle Bend and Devona (Kevin) Schultz of Brainerd; son, Joe (Mary) Steidl of Carlos; sister, Lorraine (Ronald) Neisen of Carlos; two brothers, Nick (Evette) Hauer of Great Falls, Montana and Peter (Kathy) Hauer of Conrad, Montana; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Pauline Benson; and brothers, Thomas Hauer and Warner Hauer.
Pallbearers will be Justin Steidl, Jarrod Oberg, Matt Nelson, Matt Neisen, Joey Steidl and Allan Hauer.
Honorary pallbearers will be the caregivers from Prairie Senior Cottages.
