John W. Klatke, age 76, of Miltona, died Sunday, October 25, 2009, at his home on Lake Irene.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Rev. Wade Meyer. Music will be provided by organist, Deb Joachim and vocalist, Ken Bakalyar. Private burial will take place at Gethsemane Cemetery in New Hope, Minnesota.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Tuesday at Lind Family Funeral Home in Miltona and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer or Lung Society.

John William Klatke was born July 16, 1933, to Albert and Lillian (Peacock) Klatke in Crystal, Minnesota. He attended and graduated from Crystal Public Schools and attended technical college before serving in the U.S. Army from 1955-1961. Following his honorable discharge, John returned to Crystal where he worked with Northwest Bell/Lucent Telephone Company for 33 years. He was united in marriage to Mary Lee Kasper. They made their home and raised their family in Crystal. John retired in 1985. His wife died in November of 1994. He was united in marriage to Rita Danner-Rubischko November 9, 1999, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Following their marriage they moved to Lake Irene and spent winters in Mesa, Arizona. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Alexandria and the Miltona Lions Club. John enjoyed music and sang in the Billy Graham quartet for many years. He was an avid fisherman and golfer.

John is survived by his wife, Rita; three children, Daniel (Nancy) Klatke of Eagan; Jullie (Keven) Chelte and Sandra (Paul) Fern both of Maple Grove; five step-children, John Danner of Buhl, Minnesota, Sandra Mammen of Burnsville, Susan (Dave) Danielson of Hibbing, Linda (Douglas) Westphal of St. Clair, Minnesota and James (Tammy) Danner of Litchfield; a sister, Margaret Eldridge of Roseville; eight grandchildren, Chris (April) Chelte, Bryon Wandmacher, Shauna Chelte, Anna Klatke, Jake Klatke, Briana Fern, Marisa Fern and Joey Klatke; and ten step-grandchildren, Jason Mammen, Jeff Mammen, Jeremy (Lindsey) Mammen, Jessica Mammen, Jill (Aaron) Reini, Thomas Westphal, Laura Westphal, Mitchell Danner, Collin Danner and Larisa Danner; and two great-grandchildren, Carter and Madison Klatke.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Mary Lee in 1995; three brothers, Kenneth, Harris and Norman; and a sister, Dorothy.

Pallbearers will be Bryon Wandmacher, Chris Chelte, Jake Klatke, Joey Klatke, Mitchell Danner and Thomas Westphal.
