John Joel was born on November 1, 1974, to Joel and Rose (Jorgenson) Holm in Glenwood. He attended Garfield Elementary and Alexandria Public School. During his life he held various jobs including driving school bus for the Minnewaska and Alexandria schools. Additionally, he worked as a well driller, serviceman, construction laborer, truck driver, and most recently a plumber. His most important job, from the time John was in diapers, was helping his dad on the farm and caring for the animals. He especially took pride in his beef herd. Together with his blue heeler, Sugar, and tamed cow, Eve, the team was able to control the whole herd with little effort. Even up until the day of his passing, John selflessly made sure that his cattle were taken care of and the chores were done. Outside of work and farming, John volunteered with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Posse since the age of 21. He enjoyed deer hunting, attending auction sales, drinking Dr. Pepper, and watching movies. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandma, Caroline Jorgenson; maternal grandpa, Clarence “Kelly” Jorgenson; mother, Rose; paternal grandparents, Carl and Agnes Holm; great-uncle, Harold Zieman; aunt, Kathleen Triebenbach; and uncle, Clifford Jorgenson.
John is survived by his father, Joel (Clara Schmitz) Holm of Farwell; sister, Jenny Holm of West Fargo, North Dakota; uncle and aunt, Ronald and Dorothy Holm of Farwell; along with many cousins and a host of friends.
Pallbearers are Duane and Lynn Wolfe, Cy Gunderson, Clayton Mielke, Cory and Angie Berglin. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Posse.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Alomere Health in Alexandria, Life Flight, and CentraCare in St. Cloud.
