John J. Holm

John J. Holm, age 47, of Farwell, died of a massive stroke on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at St. Cloud Hospital.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria with Celebrant Peter Lind officiating. Interment is at Oscar Lake Church Cemetery, Farwell.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m., Monday, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria and will continue one hour prior to the service.

John Joel was born on November 1, 1974, to Joel and Rose (Jorgenson) Holm in Glenwood. He attended Garfield Elementary and Alexandria Public School. During his life he held various jobs including driving school bus for the Minnewaska and Alexandria schools. Additionally, he worked as a well driller, serviceman, construction laborer, truck driver, and most recently a plumber. His most important job, from the time John was in diapers, was helping his dad on the farm and caring for the animals. He especially took pride in his beef herd. Together with his blue heeler, Sugar, and tamed cow, Eve, the team was able to control the whole herd with little effort. Even up until the day of his passing, John selflessly made sure that his cattle were taken care of and the chores were done. Outside of work and farming, John volunteered with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Posse since the age of 21. He enjoyed deer hunting, attending auction sales, drinking Dr. Pepper, and watching movies. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandma, Caroline Jorgenson; maternal grandpa, Clarence “Kelly” Jorgenson; mother, Rose; paternal grandparents, Carl and Agnes Holm; great-uncle, Harold Zieman; aunt, Kathleen Triebenbach; and uncle, Clifford Jorgenson.

John is survived by his father, Joel (Clara Schmitz) Holm of Farwell; sister, Jenny Holm of West Fargo, North Dakota; uncle and aunt, Ronald and Dorothy Holm of Farwell; along with many cousins and a host of friends.

Pallbearers are Duane and Lynn Wolfe, Cy Gunderson, Clayton Mielke, Cory and Angie Berglin. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Posse.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Alomere Health in Alexandria, Life Flight, and CentraCare in St. Cloud.

John was a great guy. I first met him when he joined the Sheriff's Posse. I spent a summer doing water patrol and John rode along with me many times during that summer. We enjoyed a lot of laughs together that summer and throughout the years since. I will definitely miss him as a volunteer with our Posse, but most importantly, I will miss him as a friend.

Many fond memories hunting with my dad on their land. Sometimes I would arrive at my Deerstand in the morning to find a note written by John and it said it was from a crazy man in the woods.

John liked to tease me whenever we saw each other. We drove school bus together and he reminded me that the kids put a sign in the window on the bottom saying "Help us " his kids always wanted to catch up to see if the sign was still there. We we're on the Posse together and he went to school with one of my daughters. I will miss you John and all your teasing.

John worked on my farm with irrigation wells and pumps for Lee Well Drilling. He had a great sense of humor and was always enjoyable to be around. I'll miss him.

Always enjoyed having John working as a posse member with me on the Sheriff's Department. Gave him grief for always wearing a coat even on hot days. He was always kind and respectful. May God bless him in heaven.

John,

We are saddened to hear that you are gone from us. Thanks for all that you did for the Douglas County Sheriff's Posse all of these years. I am proud to say that I served with you. I always enjoyed our visits too and the laughs over the years.
Blessings to your family at this time.

Until we meet again,

We met John many years ago when he first joined the Douglas County Sheriff's Posse. I remember so many times I worked with John and will miss his smiling presence at calls we respond to and monthly meetings. John was a very caring and hard working man. Whatever we were asked to do was going to be done as it was requested if at all possible. I hope God has a warm spot in Heaven for you.

I guess it was time for Douglas County 836 to go 10-7

Rest in Peace John
