James “Jim” A. Folger, age 65, a resident of Alexandria died Friday, September 12, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his family, under the care of Hospice of Douglas County.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Rev. Angie Larson officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by the Minnesota Honor Guard, and the Veteran’s Memorial Honor Guard. Internment will take place at Farwell Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church.

Jim was born on July 9, 1960, in St. Paul to Richard and June (Bye) Folger. He grew up in Farwell where he attended public schools and was confirmed at the Farwell Lutheran Church. He later moved with his family to Glenwood where he graduated from high school in 1979. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served primarily in the state of Virginia maintaining Humvee military vehicles. He was united in marriage to Sonja Peterson on December 22, 1999, in Farwell. During his working career Jim worked in pest control while living in Florida. He delivered bread on several bread routes in the state of Virginia and Minnesota. He worked on a hog farm in Westport, Quebecor Printing in St Cloud and was a maintenance supervisor for McDonald’s Restaurants in Sartell, Litchfield and Alexandria. Jim officially retired in 2022.

He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. His hobbies included fishing, spending time with his family and visiting with just about everyone. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings Fan.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sonja of Alexandria; daughter, Heather Keating of Sauk Centre; sister, Deb (Randy) Bye of Kensington; two brothers, Daniel (Leslie) Folger of Hull, England and J.D. (Lynn) Folger of Pierz; sister-in-law, Sue Folger; two granddaughters, Lindsey Erickson and Caitlin (Chris Freese) Erickson; two grandsons, Ayden Kapphahn and Cael Kapphahn; great-grandson, Carson Erickson; brother-in-law, Michael (Marie) Peterson of Alexandria; special family friend, Jill Fox of St. Cloud; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, George Bollum; three brothers, John, Mike, and Richard; and parents-in-law, Lois and Merlin Peterson.

Urn bearers will be his grandchildren. The remaining family members will be his honorary urn bearers.
