Jane Ann was born on November 5, 1949, to Francis Sr. and Dorothy (Hendren) Rowe in Britt, Iowa. When Jane was young, her family moved to Minnesota, living in several communities before settling in Plato. She graduated from Glencoe High School and went on to work at Tonka Toys for two years and Green Giant for four years. In 1978, she moved with her father to Parkers Prairie following his retirement. She then worked as a nurse’s aide at St. William’s Living Center for seven years. Her father passed away in 1987, and Jane continued to make Parkers Prairie her home. Jane later met Melvin Grothen, and they shared their lives together until his passing in 2004. She worked at Barrel of Fun in Parkers Prairie from 1998 until the business relocated in 2005. Jane lived for many years in the trailer court before later moving to Prairie Village Apartments. Jane loved being around people and was a familiar face throughout Parkers Prairie. Most mornings, she was up early to open her friend Deloris Turchin’s shop and start the coffee, even though she was not a coffee drinker herself. She would then stop at Dick’s Standard for a breakfast sandwich, often bringing something back to share while visiting and playing cards with friends. She continued this routine until declining health led her to become a resident of St. William’s Living Center. Jane was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan, rarely missing a game on television, and also enjoyed her monthly trips to the casino. Most of all, Jane enjoyed visiting with friends and being part of the community around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; special friend, Melvin Grothen; and brothers, Larry in 2012, Charlie in 2020, and Jerry in 2022.
Jane is survived her brother and sister-in-law, Francis Jr. and Janet Rowe of Arlington, Minnesota; several nieces and nephews, Michael, Mark, Johanna, Mitchell (Sammy Jo), Elizabeth, Marie (Eric), James (Gail), and John (Marion); great-niece Alice; along with a host of friends.
