James “Jim” N. Mootz, age 89, of Alexandria, died peacefully on Friday, February 3, 2023, at St. William’s Living Center in Parkers Prairie.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, February 17, 2023, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria with Fr. Peter VanderWeyst officiating. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Alexandria.
Visitation is one hour prior to the service.
James Nicholas was born on October 22, 1933, to Michael and Mary (Kack) Mootz in Marshall. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. Jim attended public school in Marshall. He worked as a milk man with Oak Grove Dairy in Marshall. Jim first saw his future bride, Kathryn “Kay” Koenecke at her hairdresser shop while delivering milk. He finally got the nerve to ask her out and the rest is history. They were united in marriage on April 25, 1964, in Alexandria. Following their marriage, they moved to Alexandria where they made their home on Lake Victoria over 62 years ago. Jim continued to work for Oak Grove Dairy as an account representative for several years. He later opened Big Gallon Dairy Store in Alexandria until retiring so he could enjoy time with his family in the late 1980s. Jim was a member of the Church of St. Mary and Alexandria Elks Lodge 1685. During retirement, he enjoyed watching the world pass by at his picnic table and his daily trips to Hardees for coffee time with his buddies. He also enjoyed watching the lake, going on car rides, and “people watching”, which he continued to do during his stay at St. William’s Living Center. Overall, he especially loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 49 years, Kay; two sisters; and three brothers.
Jim is survived by his son, Thomas Mootz of Maricopa, Arizona; daughter, Dawn (Chris) Jakubiec of Parkers Prairie; two sisters, Donna Jester of Guthrie, Oklahoma and Joan Shutt of Piedmont, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Macy and Austin Jakubiec; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Urnbearers are Austin Jukubiec, Macy Jakubiec, Chris Jakubiec, and Jerome “Larse” Bjerknes.
