Jacob “Jake” P. Gappa, age 30, of Parkers Prairie, died as a result of a vehicle accident on Wednesday, February 19, 2020.
A Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at St. William’s Catholic Church in Parkers Prairie with Fr. Peter Vander Weyst and Fr. Jeff Ethen officiating. Music is provided by organist, Paul Malecha and the church choir. Interment is at the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m., Monday at St. William’s Catholic Church and will continue one hour prior to the service.
Jacob Paul Gappa was born on July 26, 1989, to David and Denise (Sibell) Gappa in Parkers Prairie. He was baptized at St. William’s Catholic Church in Parkers Prairie and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis. Jake graduated from Osakis High School and Wadena Technical College where he studied plumbing and heating. Following his education, Jake worked as a reliability operator for Hess Corp in North Dakota. He was a member of Parkers Prairie Sportsmen’s Club, NRA and St. William’s Catholic Church. Jake enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and spending time with his family. Like his dad, he was a grill master and enjoyed entertaining friends and family at Lake Ida. He will be remembered for his heart of gold.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Sheldon Sibell; paternal grandfathers, Richard Gappa and Gilmore Jahnke; cousin, Natalie Thoennes; and father, David Gappa in July of 2018.
Jake is survived by his mother, Denise Ann (Jeffrey) Arkfeld; brothers, Shane Schlosser, Adam Schlosser, Lane (Carrie Olson) Arkfeld, Matthew (McKenzie Jendro) Arkfeld; sister, Katie Jo (Jeremy) Petersen; nephews, Isaiah, Jace, Jacob, Jorgen and Jared; nieces, Calie and Jaelynn; grandmother, Harriet Sibell; aunts, Susan (David) Crotteau and Patty (Tom) Costello; second mother, Jody Gappa; brothers, Cody (Paige) Sigfrid and Zach (fiancée, Abby Pooler) Gappa, sister, McKenzie (Robert) Christensen; nephew, Preston Christensen; grandparents, Joyce Jahnke and Leroy and Margie Thoennes; uncles, Rick (Deb) Gappa, Bill (Melody) Thoennes; Steve (Sheila) Thoennes, Terri (Athena) Thoennes and Randy (Michelle) Thoennes; aunts, Cathi (Scott) Boerner and Shari (Charles) Riedel; along with many cousins and a host of friends.
Pallbearers are BJ Revering, Dakotah Revering, Jake Dodds, Matt Langner, Josh Tersteeg and Chuck Bates. Honorary pallbearers are Drew Mesker, Ashley Mesker, Cooper Mesker, Whittley Jack Mesker, and Matt Gappa.
