Alexandria

Jack L. Belmain, age 88, of Alexandria died unexpectedly on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at the Alomere Health Hospital in Alexandria.

A private service will be held at Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at the Greens in Alexandria. Honoring Jack’s wishes, a ceremony will be held in Wyoming this upcoming summer.

Jackie Lee was born on May 10, 1935, to Henry and Katherina (Hansen) Belmain in Venice, California.  Jack grew up with his six siblings, and the family lived in Wyoming and Colorado. He graduated from Adams City High School in Commerce City, Colorado in 1953. Following his education, he secured a job at a post office in Wyoming. Jack wed Marilyn Ekdahl in Rawlins, Wyoming, and together they had four daughters. Applying the carpentry skills he had learned in high school and while working at a lumberyard, Jack personally constructed several homes for his family. His career shifted when he started working for the Bureau of Land Management, holding managerial positions throughout his tenure. He dedicated himself to this role until his retirement, with a notable achievement being his oversight of the wild horse program. On August 28, 1976, Jack married Connie Hight in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The couple settled in Cheyenne, Wyoming and later moved to Eagle, Idaho. At the age of 55, in 1990, Jack chose to retire. After spending a few years at home, he and Connie embarked on an adventure across the country in their mobile home, creating cherished memories for over six years. They established their new home in Alexandria in 2000, to be closer to their family. Although Jack was no longer traveling, he remained active by lending his building expertise to those in need, crafting cabinets and furniture for family and friends. Jack took pleasure in engaging with his grandchildren, playing poker and Mexican Train Dominoes, and indulging his passion for hunting, packing, and horseback riding.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Prince Charles (Carolyn) Belmain, Robert (Ginny) Henry Belmain, Cynda Lou Belmain, and Darlene Belmain.

Jack is survived by his wife of 47 seven years, Connie; daughters, Jaci (Steve) Howieson, Teri (Morris Bray) Schwindt, Toddi (Al) Darlington, Traci (Reagan) Cooper and Tracy (Wade Amundson) Hartshorn; siblings, Eugene ‘Pete’ (Gloria) Belmain and Dawna (Marlin) Rice; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
