Irene C. Newberg-Appelget

Irene C. Newberg-Appelget, age 73, of Parkers Prairie, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2024, surrounded by her family at home under the care of Knute Nelson Hospice.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie with Rev. Kirk Lee officiating. 

Visitation is 4-6 p.m., Friday, June 21, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Irene Charlotte was born on November 15, 1950, to Robert and Zoe (Dettwiler) Newberg in Minneapolis. She was raised in Hector, where she graduated from high school in 1968. After completing her education, Irene married Gary Bollingmo. Together, they lived on several Air Force bases across the country and were blessed with two sons. Following their separation, Irene moved closer to family in St. James, where she raised her sons.

Once her children were grown, Irene began her career as a chef at Primrose Highwigh 61 in Lutsen. She later moved to Parkers Prairie, continuing her work as a chef at various local establishments. Irene then transitioned to being a property caretaker for several years, eventually retiring from this position.

Irene was united in marriage to Bryan Appelget on October 8, 2000, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie. They enjoyed 17 years together before Bryan died suddenly in 2018. Over the years, Irene has painted many landscapes pieces involving wildlife. She enjoyed fishing with Bryan and her nephews, Ross and Ray Newberg. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Bryan.

Irene is survived by her two sons, Garrett Bollingmo of Red Bluff, California and Russell (Becca) Bollingmo of Eden Prairie; three grandsons, Orion, Liam, and Kai; three brothers, Gary (Jayne) Newberg of Detroit Lakes, Ed (Connie) Newberg of Hector, and Curtis (Blanca) Newberg of Wilmar; nieces and nephews, Brian (Missy) Newberg, Brandon (Rachel) Newberg, Taylor Newberg, Dustin (Yadira) Newberg, Ross Newberg, and Ray Newberg; grandnieces and grandnephews, Anissa, Porter, Mikala, Reggie, Zora, Blake, Piper, and Ashton; and great-grandnephew, Walker.
