Hertha J. Bowman, age 83, a resident of Parkers Prairie, died Sunday, February 7, 2010, at St. William's Living Center.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, February 11, 2010, at Elmo Lutheran Church in rural Parkers Prairie with Rev. Del Moen officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Pat Flanagin. Burial will take place at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday at Lind Family Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Hertha Josephine Olga Bowman was born June 26, 1926, to Fred and Mathilda (Diedrich) Schmidt at home in Leaf Valley Township, Minnesota. She was baptized July 18, 1926, and confirmed June 13, 1940, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in West Miltona. She attended country school. She was united in marriage to Wayne Bowman January 24, 1945, at the Lutheran church parsonage in Henning. Following their marriage, her husband served in WWII. Following his honorable discharge, they moved to Elmo Township where she raised her nine children. Her husband died October 28, 2000. Hertha continued living in Elmo Township until March of 2009, when she moved into St. William's Living Center. She was a member of Elmo Lutheran Church and its ladies aid, of which she was past vice-president. Hertha enjoyed bird watching, flower gardening, embroidery, quilting, baking and cooking.
She is survived by five daughters, Gloria (Bruce) Anderson of Deer Creek, Janet (Robert) Nelson of Parkers Prairie, Dianne (Terry) Schallock of Bloomington, Sharon Kingston and Deb Arnold both of Parkers Prairie; four sons, Dave (Betty) Bowman of Ottertail, Leon (Shannon) Bowman, Dean (Terri) Bowman and Tim (Ruth) Bowman all of Parkers Prairie; two sisters, Erna (Gilmer) Freudenberg of Garfield and Ardine Zimmer of Alexandria; three brothers, Marvin (Sandy) Schmidt of Waterloo, Iowa, Delmer (Evie) Schmidt of Montevideo and Delroy (Trudi) Schmidt of Great Falls, Montana; a brother-in-law, Magnus Schulz of Green Valley, Arizona; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; along with numerous nephews, nieces and relatives.
She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; infant daughter; brother, Albert Schmidt; sisters, Leona Schulz and Edna Skerik; sons-in-law, Frank Arnold and Shorty Kingston; and a grandson, Daniel Kingston.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Andy Bowman, Keith Bowman, Russell Higgs, Jeff Arnold, Aaron Mockros, Bob Allen Aldrich, Shane Arnold, Joe Lange, Rick Kruger and Ken Eggert. Honorary pallbearers will be her remaining grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
