Harris Olson

Harris M. Olson, age 85, died August 6, 2011, at his home in Almora, Minnesota. Visitation will be at the Lind Family Funeral Home, Parkers Prairie, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 9, 2011, and continue at the church one hour before the funeral. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie with Reverend Jon Sorum officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Julie Lingren and vocalist Reece Aldrich. Internment will be in the Parkers Prairie Cemetery.

Harris Manfred Olson was born December 27, 1925, to Edwin and Emma (Johnson) Olson in Parkers Prairie, Minnesota. He grew up on the family farm east of town and attended District #41 country school. He served in the Merchant Marines and was drafted into the Army during World War II. He received military police training and was stationed in the Philippines. Upon discharge from the military, he returned to Parkers Prairie where he lived until moving to Almora in 1995. In 1949 he married Della Mae Conn, and from that union one son was born, Gary L. Olson.

Harris owned an operated Harry's Caf? in Parkers Prairie and later began a career in trucking with M. A. Hanna Iron and Mark's Sand and Gravel. He was a pioneer in the trucking industry, starting when many of the roads he traveled were gravel. He became an owner, operator in 1964, driving his beloved Peterbilt trucks until his retirement in 1998. In retirement he provided day care for his great-grandchildren and pursued his life long enjoyments of driving, riding and visiting his family and friends. Harris was a member of the American Legion, Minnesota Trucking Association, and Diesel Drivers of America.

Harris is survived by his son Gary L. Olson; brothers Arthur W. Olson of Alexandria, MN and Ardon A. (Lovie) Olson of Arden Hills, MN; one sister Verna (Bob) Rude of Dalton;
three grandchildren, Jamie D. (Jackie) Olson, Jeannie M (Gerald) Garrison and Jonathan R. (Mandi) Olson and three great-grandchildren Madison Olson, Emma Bruce and Levi Bruce. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers George and Carmon Olson and sister Joyce Holteen.

Pallbearers are Grant Olson, Garth Olson, Steve Olson, Greg Olson, Andy Rude and Dan Olson. Honorary pallbearers are members of the American Legion and his great-grandchildren.
