Harris Dwaine Haugen was born May 27, 1937, to Hans and Gladys in their farmhouse in Murray County. He lived in the Tracy area until his parents bought Evergreen Inn on Lake Miltona when he was 12 years old. Four years later, they moved to a farm near Spruce Hill Church. Harris graduated from Central High School in 1956. He joined the Army National Guard and took his training at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. In 1957, Harris met the love of his life at a Clotho Hall Dance. On June 6, 1959, Harris married Phyllis Florene Green. In their first three years of marriage, they welcomed three children, Kevin, Vickie and Debora. In 1966, they made their home on a hobby farm west of Lake Carlos where they lived for 41 years. In 2006, they purchased a home north of Parkers Prairie where they resided until his passing. Harris enjoyed working several jobs in his early years, he worked for Midland Co-op, managed Superior gas station, worked for Alexandria Boat Works, Glastron Boats and Sno-Jet Snowmobiles. He made a career at RAM Insurance where he worked for many years until he retired in 2001. In retirement, Harris enjoyed fishing, hunting, evening drives looking for deer and having coffee with friends at Hardees in Alexandria. Together, Harris and Phyllis babysat for six great-grandchildren, Olivia, Owen, Ella, Wyatt, Finn and Madelyn. He enjoyed telling stories of the great grandkids and their (and his!) shenanigans. Lots of memories to cherish of their time together. Harris’ family meant the world to him. From horseback riding to fishing, hunting, camping, and snowmobiling, he always found a way to get his family outdoors. He took his grandchildren fishing from little on and spent every whitetail hunting season with family.  In recent years, he enjoyed attending baseball games with his great-grandkids and watching them play baseball and softball. No conversation was complete without him proudly detailing the latest happenings of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In a recent conversation with a nurse, he happily introduced Phyllis as the one who “takes such good care of me”.

Harris was called home to Jesus, on June 21, 2021, at the age of 84 years and 25 days, following a battle with heart failure since 1996, bladder, kidney and lung cancer since 2018, and was cared for by a wonderful team at Fargo Sanford Hospital for the final 28 days of his life.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Gladys; sister, Eunice, in-laws, Edward and Glendora Green, brothers-in-laws, Dennis Green, Joe Otremba, Randy Evans, and Harold Altermatt.

Harris is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Phyllis; son, Kevin (Kathy) Haugen of Alexandria, daughter, Vickie (Brian) Andree of Waterville, daughter, Deb (Rick) Gappa of Parkers Prairie; grandchildren, Dana Marthaler, Kelly (Caleb) Olson, Timothy (Kaye) Andree, Jacki (Jake) Suchy, Jennifer (LJ) Prussman, Adam (friend, Jordan) Marthaler, Kyle (Taisha) Andree, Matthew (Brittany) Gappa, Grant (Mandy) Haugen; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Owen, Ella, William, Wyatt, Lucy, Lyle, Finn, Leena, Madelyn, Emma, Evey, Maci, Jackson and baby, Andree due in August; brother, Bruce (Renae) Haugen; sisters, Fern Haugen, and Noreen (Tom) Dean; sisters-in-law, Rose (Steve) O’Brien, Glennette Green, Laurie Evans, Beverly (Bob) Bolduc, Anita Otremba, Darlene (Jim) Erlickman, and Frances Altermatt.; brothers in-law, Charlie (Ruth) Green, Edward Green, and David (Doreen) Green; along with many nieces, nephews and relatives.
